Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Just make sure you carry your bike over the barricades instead of trying to ride over them.

Is that a threaded or headless stem setup?

Put on 28mm Grand Prix's tonight. I've always ridden 23s on a road bike just out of habit and this is the first time I switched....soooo comfortable. The paved paths with the roots pushing through the path/creating speedbumps are no longer going to be teeth jarring. Should have switched a long time ago.

Finally got a new track pump (we 'mericans call it a floor pump but track pump makes it sound more boss) I donated my old one to some friends and have just been using either my frame pump, a friends pump or just using the compressor at work,

and picked up some extra security

I had a friend who wanted some lights so I figured why not order myself a few things and make him pick up the shipping and taxes since he is already getting it super cheap.

For my 2006 Lemond Zurich:
Soma Hwy One Road Bar
Specialized Phenom Evo saddle 155m

I bought the bar because the OEM Bontrager ergo drops were uncomfortable for my hands.

1" ID PVC Pipe and cap from HD.

$2.60 + 5 mins with a dremel = crown race installation tool.

LOL

I have a heavy duty jack and noticed the handle extension was the exact diameter for the crown race. So I cut the plastic grip off at the end, slid the pipe on the race...few taps and it was seated. Ghetto fab.

The Cane Creek race has a nice seal integrated into it and I didn't want to ruin it with a metal pipe. I used a soft hammer

By the way, I filed down the crown race seat from 27mm to 26.45(ish) with a couple of files. Needed a pretty course one to break through the chrome. Why they chrome the machined surface is beyond me but anyway, yeah, I said a Hail Mary and filed it. Moved to a fine file once I was through the chrome and into the actual steel. Just kept measuring with calipers and tried to seat it when I got close. It finally went on after about an hour of gently removing a little bit at a time.

So post some pics of your new fork (and your sad seatpost).

ive been using a pvc pipe since my first bike and it works excellently

-not hard enough to mar the metal
-when one end gets jacked up just flip it around or saw a bit off
-basically free

38T chainring. Two laps of my backyard made me realize how hard it is to accelerate from a dead stop, uphill, on grass.

Not for the bike, but I got the new Endura rain jacket last week. It is supposed to be the most breathable ever made. And, it is a major improvement over my Showers Pass, which is a great jacket.
