Rear brake only. You don't want this. They have many other models in the $300 price range that have both front and rear brakes. This model is only $250, and is full chromo with very good Tektro front and rear brakes:

I like the price tag hah. But I dont know about the dawes brand. Does that bike compare to the kilo tt or the others, being that its 50$ less?

I just canceld the order over the phone sooo I can a lil longer picking out the bike now. I didnt realize how many bikes were on bike direct!

thanks kungfu for the input but that bike does not have a chromo frame, and I have been warned to stay away from carbon since it is not durable

Don't worry about brand names. The cheaper $250 - $330 bikes are all made in China, probably in the same factory and the brand names like Dawes, Windsor and Motobecane are all pretty much the same quality. The Kilo TT frame is better quality and is made in Taiwan, which is the main reason for the higher price. I have a Motobecane Messenger and Windsor Clockwork, which are both decent bikes.

why do people always hate on rear brake only bikes?

loads of people ride sans brakes without any real issues. and a rear brake does a decent job of stopping quickly. I've never had an issue just using my rear brake to slow down.

it was an honest question...
I understand giving people hell who don't use any brakes at all, though its kind of their call.
But to advise someone against bike x just because it doesn't have two brakes seems silly.
You're a more experienced rider so I was asking what your reasoning was for that?

(if it's because he's new and in SF I can even understand that, just wondering)

Apples and oranges here. The Madison is equivalent to the $300 Chinese BD bikes like Windsor, Motobecane, Dawes etc. Also, the BD bikes ship for free, whereas the Madison does not, so the difference in price is not so much. As to the Kilo TT, just keep in mind that this bike will not accept wider tires and you will have a lot of toe overlap with the front tire. Otherwise, it's a better quality frame, which will probably make you happier in the long run as you upgrade it.

Well, not having one or having seen one up close, I can only speculate that it's probably no better or worse than one of the $300 BD offerings. One thing for sure is that it will be heavier with those deep V wheels. On the plus side, it already comes with reasonable gearing.

the first ride feels a little awkward, then you get used to it.
You can always pick up a set of risers if you hate the drops.

The tires on the Kilo WT are 700x32c road tires, which are a lot wider than the Kilo TT (700x23c), but not nearly as wide as MTB and have a smooth road tread. I have a Kilo WT, and it's a great bike. It also has better hubs than the regular Kilo TT with sealed cartridge bearings, and you have to pay another $50 to get them on the Kilo TT Pro.

Another advantage of the Kilo WT over the Kilo TT is that it has hooded brake levers, which gives you another hand position for increased comfort. You also have access to the brake levers w/o having to move your hands when riding on the drops, which is safer.

What about the Fantom Uno? I called BD today and they're out of my size for the kilo WT and should be for the next 3 months. Is the Kilo WT of much better quality (esp the frame?) over the Fantom Uno?

think im going to get the schwinn for 360$ shipped. its chromoly, i like the deep vs for the city, and I like the riser handle bars. and I was told it should have better quiality components compared to the bd bikes and it has a lower gear ratio for san francisco hills

or I save myself 60$ and get the hour that has the drop handle bars for 300$ shipped?

those r my two options I think they dont got the tt in my size with brakes

aight my order is put in. gettin down with maddy. thanks for the help guys. the kilo tt is too much of a track bike for me, I just want a normal riding bike with a good frame and decent components. besides, the maddy looks wayyyy better then any bike mention, including the kilo tt and comes with brakes lol
