And when you figure out what type of riding you want to do, that will help determine what type of frame you want.
Example: I got a Bianchi San Jose because the track bike geometry is too aggressive and twitchy for me. I also do a lot of riding out in the country and needed a more comfortable bike for long rides.
I put fenders on it in case I was riding it to work in the rain but because of the track dropouts it was necessary to remove the fenders in order to get the wheel off to fix a flat. I took the fenders off and don't ride in wet weather now.

I spent a good solid week researching brand vs brand, steel vs. aluminum within my price point and pretty soon one frame made itself obvious. This is what you must do my son

Since this thread popped back up here is what happened:
All City Big Block
H Plus Son TB 14 to formulas
omniums
thomson seat poast
specialized toupe
cheap steam
Fyxation rodeo bars
fizik tape
panracer pasela 25 gumwalls
AC track pedals/cages
AC cog.
I don't think I've left anything out.
I'm very happy with the way my build turned out, and having been around the forums a little longer see the wisdom in your earlier advice.

Man I REALLY wanted to go with a Thompson seat post on my new build but couldn't bring myself to spend the money even though it is an incredible seat post. However the money I didn't spend on that is going to the IRD Defiant crankset. I would also like to see pics of your build
