I saw a couple of UPS trucks yesterday but none made it to my house. My bike stuff has been sitting in Doraville since last Saturday. Its supposed to rain Monday and Tuesday so I guess I'll be installing my bike stuff on rainy Tuesday.

The temps are above freezing so I'm going to attempt a ride to Stone Mountain later.

I wimped out. Tomorrow for sure. The roads are looking much better and it was actually kind of warm today. Strange because my back yard and much of my front yard are still covered with snow.

Did you ever get the trainer repaired?

Well it was nice and warm today so I headed out for my usual ride. Had to leave my neighborhood by a different route. Many of the streets that are shaded by tall pines and big oaks are covered with slush and semi-frozen stuff. Had to get off and walk very carefully through a 30 foot stretch of the stuff. Rode down Lawrenceville Highway to Mclendon Dr. (not the one in east Atlanta). Turned onto Mclendon and got about 3/4 mile before I gave up. Much of Mclendon is shaded by big oaks and there was slush everywhere. I almost slipped/skidded on it 4 times. That's when I gave up. Three of the 4 spots looked like wet pavement. Two feet before I got to it I saw that it was thin slush. Thin but thick enough to cause me to slip and slide. I also had some a-hole in a Mercedes following me way too close in the slippery sections. One time when I stopped to try walking thru a short section I looked behind me and she was only a few feet behind me.

After I got home I told my wife that I'll be very happy for the rain we're supposed to get tomorrow and Tuesday. She laughed and asked if I hit my head while I was out because I'm always complaining about rain.

sorry to hear your ride sucked or didn't happen today.

on another note. I have a great ride today. there were 3 of us. set out about 1200. did 32 miles. average about 16.7 for the trip. we stopped a few times to strech and just take a quick breather. one time they stopped for me at the top of a hill. this hill took me for what I was worth. lol. but finished the ride. was a little chilly at times. but over all very good.

Glad you got to ride. Looks like I'll finally be able to do a real ride on Wednesday. The warm rain should wash all this crap away.

Finally.... gee whiz but the roads were awful this week. I commuted into Emory this AM. a few tricky spots but manageable. I scouted the road over the weekend to see if the ice had cleared. there are still places with ice on the road. not riding for a week took its toll. am very glad to be back out there.

I was sick as a dog on Monday night. Started feeling dizzy and 5 minutes later was hanging over the toilet. Got about 2 hours sleep. Really screwed up my wife's birthday Tuesday.
The UPS truck FINALLY delivered my bike stuff Tuesday afternoon. I'm feeling like a human being again today so I'll install the cages and computer stuff.

BG, glad you could finally get back to commuting. There are still a few tricky spots on the road??? I guess I better check the other end of my neighborhood. One street I usually ride out of the neighborhood on was still covered with frozen slush and packed snow on Monday afternoon.

hey guys, just checking in here, I'm in the Duluth Area, looking at getting into some form of cycling (don't have a bike yet). Want to get a bike to ride around some of the parks and trails as well as get one for my wife so she can do a bit of casual exercise around a park on a nice day or something. I myself want to get into something challenging. Thought about taking the beginners course in Dick Lane this spring or getting a MTB and getting out to some of the trails. For now since it's kinda chilly I think I'm going to just do some indoor rock climbing as well as my usual regimen of weight training.

Welcome danilo. Track racing and mtn biking are an odd combination.
You didn't say anything about a road bike. Will you be getting one somewhere down the road
The folks in the Track Cycling forum can help you with the track bike stuff.

BG -- the Weather Channel said a slight chance of mixed precipitation late tonight. It'll probably be nothing or very light rain.

two different extremes I agree, but both kind of similar since you have to drive to the destination to perform them...

I'm not sure if I plan on getting a road bike... I don't think I would feel comfortable riding anywhere near duluth, people drive ******** around here.

They drive like that everywhere around Atlanta so don't let it intimidate you.

I have a friend who lives in Grayson. Several years ago he invited me out to Grayson to ride with him. I thought we'd find some back road with little or no traffic. Didn't happen. He is a triathlete and took me on his usual training route -- down Sugar Loaf Parkway (in the bike lane) -- from Grayson to about 2 miles past Discover Mills. Not sure which was more "fun", the ride out or the ride back to Grayson.

If you ever feel the "need" to get out on the road, stop by the bike shops out that way and ask about group rides. CycleWorks has a few rides. You can also check out the Southern Bicycle League's ride calendar. --> www.bikesbl.org.

Have fun.

I'm just south of Gwinnett Place in Duluth, and I ride down to Norcross and up a little past Pleasant Hill. I'm mostly a commuter/utility cyclist at this point. I'm trying to eke out a bit more time on my 19 year old car and get in better shape at the same time.

I don't go on group rides much though because I'm dead slow (average just over 10 mph). But at least I'm riding. I did just under 2500 miles last year, starting in April.

Welcome Archergal.
10 mph is fast enough. At least you don't fall over.
What bike do you ride?

A little while ago I posted about Southern Sweets. They have good pie. But they don't always have cherry pie. For some reason it is my goal to have very good homestyle cherry pie and good coffee before the close of this weekend. Any recommendations?

Whole Foods usually has cherry pie. I don't know if that's considered home-style but it's good. You can get a whole pie, half pie, and sometimes a 1/4 pie.

The Cheesecake Factory has GREAT desserts, including cherry pie.

Deren, my wife said you should learn how to make your own cherry pie.

I'm actually a pretty good cook. And I probably will tackle this sometime. But there are times when I need to be able to just drive/bike somewhere and have someone else do the work for me.

Just wanted to check in.
Newbie on this forum and to biking. Trying to get back in shape and get the cholesterol down.
I'm in Dunwoody. I usually say near Perimeter Mall cuz seems there's a stigma towards Dunwoody.
Any recommendations on LBS?
