Slo Spoke... I got a camera mount similar to this one here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT I actually got it in the mail today but didn't have time to get it on the bike. I took it with me but just ran out of time again. The story of my life the last couple of days..... DOH!! Should have it mounted and take some test shots tomorrow on my ride.... I cant seem to find a setting on the camera to keep it on more that 5 minutes without it shutting off. Its weird.... I can shut power saving mode off.... but then it still has the 5 minute thing.. I'm going to have to mess with it a bit. Interesting mount let me know how it works. My camera shuts off as well and I have the power saver turned off also. I just have to watch it and turn the darn thing back on every once in a while. |
Very cool pics.... Well just tried mounting the camera mount on my road bike..... Wont work... The bars are too big around. It will work on the Mountain bike though.... Going for a ride inna bit......

I did get out for a ride Sat after mounting the camera on the mountain bike. I need to remind myself NOT to ride the mountain bike on the road for 20 miles again... But I wanted to try out the camera.... Rode about 10miles with the wind, even with the wind I was at least 2mph slower on the mountain bike than I would have been on the road bike.... Just seemed like I was crawling.... Took a rest at my "resting rock" (see pic below LOL). Then it was 10 miles back into the wind. Yep.... that sucked on the mountain bike... but I did get a NICE workout, which is good!! 20.54 miles total...
Anyway here are the pics.... Nothing special really, but it did work really well. Now I still need to figure out how to get the camera mounted on the road bike... The camera takes great pictures, had it set at 6mp & not the 10mp size. And then I shrunk them even more to upload... Pic 1 .... Leaving my house sandy/dirt road.. Pic 2 ... Hill going into 9 mile swamp.. pic 3 ... Entrance to part of the Florida Trail, I was going to ride on it for a couple of miles but they were mowing the trail. pic 4 ... Hill coming out of 9 mile swamp on the Palatka side.. pic 5 ... My resting rock.... LOL ... pic 6 ... Into the sun heading west back into 9 mile swamp.. pic 7 ... Turn for home and OUT OF THE HEADWIND... thank god... lol Attachment 159182Attachment 159183Attachment 159184Attachment 159186Attachment 159187Attachment 159195Attachment 159196 |
Trying to get motivated to get out for a ride this morning. Just can't seem to get my butt out of the chair.
|
va_cyclist, get out there before the heat gets too bad! i've been and back already and it was awesome.

Got out early this morning for a ride. I wasn't sure I'd make it...3rd day in a row! It's hard for me to get out during the week, so I went ahead and pushed myself to do it with no expectation of beating yesterday's ride. Just wanted to get out and go.
Turns out I did beat yesterday's ride by about a half a mile. Followed a lot of the same route, but then cut west to make it a loop. At what I figured was about my mid point, I stopped to grab a drink after a hill. Hills never look as bad in photos as they do in person, do they? http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/...7d822af630.jpg Love shady old neighborhoods. That spot in the road is another dude busting it up the hill. We ran into each other a few times on the ride. Chatted a little at a long light I would've run if there hadn't been two cars full of cops behind me. :-) Saw a few other cyclists out. Nice morning for it. I always give a head nod, but it seems to be rarely returned. What's up with that? In other news, I pulled this out of the basement. Now that I'm starting to get stronger I want to fix it up. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4073/...84ffbab1c4.jpg Love the pics from your rides. Keep it up! I feel too noob to worry about taking pics while riding. But I'm getting more comfortable every time. Maybe soon I'll zip tie my cheap digital camera to the bars. |

30.3 miles today. Humidity was 80% when I left and 68% when I got back. Temp in the mid 70s to mid 80s. It was a cloudy day in sunny Florida. Very good ride today until the thunder started and the dark clouds rolled in. 258.6 miles this month 3738 miles this year 120 ride days LY vs 119 ride days TY 3761 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles) I am @ 49.8% of my goal. I need to be @ 66.6% (5000 miles) by the end of August 263 miles ahead of last year at this date Today's ride as seen thru the eyes of my bike: Photos from left to right 1. & 2. some horse farms on Ibis Road 3. The entrance to the bike tunnel under SR 434 a very busy and dangerous intersection. The county is getting ready to start another tunnel under Lake Mary Blvd. and International Pky. which is about 6 miles north of the 434 tunnel. It will be completed late summer 2011. 4. You can always tell what the weather is by the bikes outside of Panera Bread in Heathrow 5. Here is an idea of what you can do with that old school bus that is setting out behind your house. Oh, you don't have a school bus behind your house:rolleyes: |
I did it. Only 25 miles, but it was a fast 25, and the heat wasn't nearly as bad as it's been here the past two weeks. I was getting dissatisfied with going longer distances slowly and feeling lousy afterward, so I've been doing shorter, faster rides lately, and coming home feeling great.

zzotherlandzz... great photos, I hope you can get the mount fixed to your road bike. Is that a quick release mount?
I saw 2 red tail hawks this morning but they were gone before I could get my camera unscrewed from my handle bar. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr |
Wow ... everybody was out today.. very cool.. Seems I was the only idiot out on the trail today at NOON when it was really hot before the clouds started rolling in. I rode 20.99 miles and only saw one other person on the trail. Rode on the Palatka Lake Butler trail near Keystone Heights again & also rode up to Golds Head State Park on that trail. That is the most hilly trail or route that I ride now. With all of the flat riding in Florida its pretty cool to tackle it sometimes. Wish I would have had the camera, but there was NO way I was going to ride the mountain bike again on a long (for me) paved ride. Yep... the wind was kicking my butt again.. I thought I was going to have a tail wind for the last 3 miles or so back to the parking area.. NOPE..... Storm front started moving in and the wind changed direction..... But that's Florida for you... LOL...
zzotherlandzz... great photos, I hope you can get the mount fixed to your road bike. Is that a quick release mount? Nope not a quick mount... I'm going to put my thinking cap on and see if there is some way I can make it work on the road bike. Because it is kind of fun taking pics while your riding.. abracapocus .... You sure would get a workout riding that bike you pulled out of the basement... Keep riding..... as long as your having fun...... why not!!! |

Gosh! Great pictures ya'll!! I may just have to look into this. Well, my doc appoint went well. Had an injection to get me through til surgery date of mid August. This weekend we went camping at Silver River State Park and I finally got to use my new mb some. Lots of trails there and we did just about all of them. However, I will warn you...do not try the Ross Allen trail here (at least for awhile). Very, very muddy and swampy and way too many mosquitos. Hubby and I finally had to turn around as we were both covered. I even picked up a tick too. But, it felt so good to ride again. Overall about 18 miles on Saturday. Lots of deer sitings as well as one HUGE rattlesnake that hubby said was the biggest he had ever seen. It was stretched out across the trail. Hubby was in front of me and told me "just keep riding" and I looked down and saw it. I just barely missed it. Thankfully. Overall...nice place to ride.
Next weekend we are headed to Tomoka State Park over near Ormond. Not sure of the trails there so I'm taking both the road and mb. LindaN |
Haven't been able to post in a while, but I got 30 miles yesterday and 15 miles today. It's been very hot and humid here, but I've been able to tough it out to get my riding in. The past few days have been really enjoyable for me because I GOT A NEW BIKE YAY!!! lol. 2010 Scott Speedster S40 with S30 components. The reason I went with this combo was because I really wanted a black frame and the LBS owner said he would change out the components for me. It's sweeeet :-)

This happens to me every year. I start the spring with great intentions and as soon as the Florida summer settles in I say "eh, not today". Then I start watching the Tour and feeling guilty about the shiny new cobwebs on my dusty old ride, and get out and start riding again. In the middle of JULY. So, I hit the pavement Saturday in what little free time I had. Only got in 6 miles before the sun went down, but it was at a fair clip.

Got in about 15 miles today before the storms started rolling in. There were many people out today. At one point I was wheeling along and came up on a lady standing on the trail waving her hand for me to stop, so I did. We were able to stand there and watch 3 or 4 deer walk across the trail. Wish I had one of the mounted cameras y'all have been talking about. On a different note, still fully enjoying the new bike.

The rain let up and then the clouds cleared out & I went for a bike ride. (Monday) I kind of wish the clouds would have stuck around though, because it ended up getting pretty warm. I think I took off at about 5:30 or so. Again the wind was blowing from the west, so the 10 miles out I had a tail wind again. About half way home it did let up a bit, but still a slight head wind for the last 5 miles or so. Really nice ride though, a lot better than the 20 miles on the mountain bike 2 days ago .... LOL
Here is a pic of the same resting rock.... only with my road bike leaning on it instead of the mountain bike.... :P 20.41 miles today... |

Nope, still haven't got the camera on the road bike yet. Tomorrow I think i'll have a bit of free time to mess with it though.
I did get out for a ride again today though. I was getting tired of the headwind on the back part of the "out and back" so today I decided to ride into the headwind first. The 4 lane road with the bike path on the side only goes about 4 miles west. And then it turns back into a 2 lane road with a shoulder for about another 3 miles or so. So I road west for about 7 miles & then turned around. I took another road south for almost 3 miles & turned around for 3 miles back. I ended up riding 20.47 miles + the half mile walk back to the house down the dirt road. Was a great ride.... I need to get the camera on the bike though... DOH!! zzOtherlandzz thinks to self.... if I ride about 17.5 miles tomorrow I'll have 100 miles in five days.... zzOtherlandzz has NOT done that in at least 2 years...... |
That is always the situation, isn't it"? the tailwind is always nice to you, but the wicked "headwind" of the west is nasty

Yep..... that sure is the case.... I can only hope all the riding into the headwind is at least making my stronger..... I have been wondering where I want to ride today all morning, taking the headwind into account. Still haven't made up my mind yet... |
