I don't think anyone sells a sub-14 lb climbing bike in a stock configuration. There are quite a few bikes that can be built into sub-14 lb climbing bikes if your budget is unlimited, though. (And if you're willing to go with tubulars.)

I'd settle for lighter than my current bike, which wouldn't be very hard to do.

I saw it in a magazine, article was on the lightest bikes. Dont know that is was just a climbing bike. Besides he likes to spend, he could spend a whole lot on that bike. I think it was priced aound $9000. |
what is the advantage of having a bike that light? Sprinting, climbing?

Yes both, but it needs more then just light. If its light and flexy, its not worth a darn. |
I road my friends supergo CFR bike and that thing flexes like a mad man under power, we're both about the same size (about 200lb). I think his weighs about 19lbs with the cages and stuff on there. It's was also my first time riding a CF frame. I can't imagine something with less weight and trying to sprint with it. My alum bike flexes a bit under my hard sprints as is, I'm not sure if it's the CF fork or the wheels flexing.

I weigh 195 and my Madone is very stiff for sprinting and climbing. Alot of the store brand bike are not that great in the frame dept. If they are less money its cutting quality somewhere, usually the frame. |
he got a good deal on it, all ultegra parts for about $1500 out the door, was marked down from $2200. I ride a basic Felt F90, nothing special, sora stuff but works well for me, it got me into riding on the road w/o much invested. Kinda sad that my MTB weighs a pound less then the roadie and will be even lighter when I convert it to SS on monday when the brown truck brings my parts.

Felt makes good bikes. My road bike weighs 17 lbs. My Salsa Juan SOlo SS is 22 with susp fork and 19lb rigid. My Niner SS is 27lbs. |
I have had no probs at all, I have about 5000+ miles on it in the 1 1/2 years I had it. Love it, most reliable bike I own. My next roadie might be another Felt. It's a size 58 and is a hair over 22lbs. My magnesium MTB is 20.5lbs and should be about 17-18 after going singlespeed. I have a 06' RS Team Reba on there. GREAT fork!!!

Voltman, you need a durable alu frame just like my C'dale caad8. ;)

Bumping this back to page 1...
After much discussion with markw, I'm thinking a Powertap would be neat. It would be cool to have real-time data of that sort to work with to help with pacing. adxm had convinced me of basically the same thing back in July, also. Not getting one anytime soon, but I'll think about it. |

So after consulting various bike shop folks, a 54 would be perfect for me. Or a 52.
