I'm thinking I'm better off with these than the Aeros, even though the Aeros are $100 cheaper.

Thats the set I have on my madone. The guy at the bike shop was telling me they were closer to 1800 grams for the set. Trying to get me to buy a lighter set, what a dog. I really like em, had no problems, they are still true and Im almost 200 lbs.

BigSean 10-13-06 12:17 PM

Just double checked mine are the race lite's and they are a bit heavier, but the same hubs.:(

Yay. I just got e-mail confirmation that my package from Nytro shipped. :) Yes, I could have just picked up the stuff. I'm too lazy to go over there just to pick up that stuff, I don't have time this weekend to browse, and the cost of gas/tire wear/depreciation probably would equal the shipping cost anyway.

Which of your list did you end up getting?

jschen 10-13-06 06:00 PM

ZeroGravity Ti brakes. Threw in some white bar tape and Zipp carbon bar plugs for aesthetic reasons since the brakes were on sale. Still have to get seatpost, bar, stem, but haven't commited to any particular models yet.

I'm really liking those Bonty wheels, especially since they come in black. Of course, I could cheap out and go with the standard Open Pro/Ultegra hub build.

jschen 10-13-06 06:04 PM

Those Bonty wheels do look like a nice wheelset. At the retail price, they seem awfully expensive, but at that sale price, sounds tempting to me.

New toys! My digital calipers (2) and a 6" bench buffer/polisher have arrived!

PBK has the Dura-Ace 7801 wheels for $560. I wonder if I can get Performance to match that. Doubtful. Performance has them for $9xx.

jschen 10-13-06 06:09 PM

voltman, what qualities are you looking for in your wheelset? Weight? Aero? Sexy looks?

Strength, decently light, and relatively comfortable for longer rides. I don't want something that will make climbs even harder. I'm looking to replace a scuffed set of Shimano R550s.

DaveSANYYZ 10-13-06 06:26 PM

Hey, voltman, what to try building your own wheelset?

I have no idea/no skills at this time, but I've been thinking about it. What I need to decide is whether I should build something cheap so that ruining it is not a big deal; or build something that I like and can make use of, but then ruining the build would be costly. Decisions, decisions...

Maybe for a second set. I just want a set nowish.

Hey, from the limited time you had yours, would you recommend the Circuits?

That reminds me. Haven't heard back from FIL.

roadfix 10-13-06 08:12 PM

If you're looking at low spoke count light weight wheelsets, factory assembled wheels are your best bet. But if you're interested in traditional wheelsets, building your own is definitely an option and challenging.

I do want to try that eventually. Sounds fun.

All pairs of my mt bike gloves are Fox products, and all pairs are still good stuff. Get full finger, the Digits are a good glove.

They're a perfectly competent wheelset. dog hair used them with his Kestrel, too. Not exactly the lightweight wheelset the Bontrager Race X-lites are, though. (But not as expensive, either.)

By the way, depending on which wheelset my dad picks, I might still have my Circuits. If he picks the Ksyrium Equipes, then you could try them sometime at a group ride if you want to decide for yourself what you think.
