I ordered and picked up Deda bar tape in silver:

http://i19.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/81/8f/f685_1.JPG

but it's not what I was expecting. It's stiff and there's no squish to it! Pretty sure I'm not going to use it. Suggestions/recommendations for other brands? Silver seems to be hard to find.

Scootcore 02-05-07 08:29 PM

dunno if they have silver, but cinelli is great!!!! the bontrager stuff is pretty good as well!

jsigone 02-05-07 08:34 PM

I've had no probs with the performance house brand, on sale for $5 too any color. I got 2 rolls, white and black.

They also have bar tape with the gel pads underneath. I have the regular Fizik tape on all of my bikes.

Here's what I picked up at Performance last Sunday. Two cycling caps, two tubes, and a box of GU gels. And yes that's a 101 dalmations blanket on my bed. :)

As OC Roadie already mentioned, the Fizik bar tape is generally well liked. If you happen to like the looks of the Deda but not the amount of squish, you could always wrap it over your existing bar tape. Personally, I like the minimal squish of the Deda tape, but to each his/her own.

Is there a padded version of the carbon tape?

BigSean 02-07-07 11:21 AM

Right on!....another convert!

jsigone 02-07-07 11:30 AM

nice!!!!! I'm gonna build up a Flip flop hub wheelset soon. I have my long reach brake calipers coming here on Monday, so I can run 700c on my bike. The rest of my parts are lost on the UPS truck, his truck was packed wrong and its a mess. I want my darn parts!!!!!

BigSean 02-07-07 11:39 AM

Yep, I wanted something to ride in the rain. Plus its a better choice for my shorter rides. Not to mention I just love the simplicity of no gears.:D Of course i may not say that once Im climbing.

jsigone 02-07-07 11:46 AM

what gearing comes on that bike stock? By the time I get my wheel set, I could have almost bought a complete fixie LOL.

Right now I have $130 in it as it sits
+ 70 for new brakes calipers and Ego Brake levers
+ 80 for pedals, bars, cages
+ about 200-250 for a wheelset when I build it.

Oh well, if it comes down to it, I may just get an IRO frame and move everything off the $30 frameset

BigSean 02-07-07 11:49 AM

I believe its 42x16. Im buying it cause I figure it would take me forever to piece something together for that price.

jsigone 02-07-07 11:56 AM

that's about the same gearing I have.

If I get the wheelset, I'll have about $480 in the bike + $150 for the IRO frameset if I get in on the deal which I think I will.

jpconrad 02-07-07 12:59 PM

I've been on a continuous shopping spree lately it seems. Today I bought an Assos T FI.Mille bib and a PI Slice Jersey.

Last week I got a Niterider Moab.

roadfix 02-07-07 01:14 PM

I just ordered a PI Transfer vest. These have pockets in the front which I like...:)
Last week I picked up a long sleeve Nike Dri-fit baselayer in black at Big 5 sporting goods and wore it on the century ride to SB last weekend. I liked the way it kept me fairly warm & dry that I'll probably pick up another set in white this time.

VanceMac 02-07-07 04:13 PM

Just bought a case (50) of 16g threaded CO2 cartridges from a guy on e-bay. He sent me a couple for free to make sure they'd work with my genuine innovations head. With shipping, they came out to 90-cents each. If anyone wants some for that price, let me know... I have way more than I need.

merider1 02-07-07 04:18 PM

I recently bought a Canari lightweight windbreaker and I love it! I've not been dissatisfied by Canari thus far. I also bought some Trek cycling shorts and the Morph Road Master Blaster pump (with gauge and floor stand). The shorts are "eh" but the pump is awesome. It really does pump up to 120 PSI!

here and there 02-07-07 08:17 PM

I spent most of sunday overhauling my bike and a few items came up so I ordered new hub cones, bearings and a new bottom bracket at my LBS. The hub parts come on friday, bottom bracket should arrive sometime next week. I also bought myself a small work stand and a work stool at Harbor Freight. The stand isn't all that big, but it does have some storage space and it gives me a flat solid area to work on other than the pool table, heh.

Aside from maintenance stuff I bought another front safety light and a water bottle cage for the mtb.

Psydotek 02-07-07 08:21 PM

^^^I got a Canari windbreaker myself afew weeks ago. It's awesome (it's convertible between a vest/jacket/hip pouch). :D The road morph is also a sweet pump. It's saved me on numerous an occasion.

As for my recent purchases:

Water Bottle Cages - $6 - Jensonusa.com
Brakeline Kit - $30 - Jensonusa.com

Front Headtube Cable Hanger - $2 - nashbar.com
Cable cutting/crimping tool - $27 - nashbar.com
Long Tights - $27 - nashbar.com

Endura Hummvee 3/4 Knickers - $98 - Toeclip.com

Cantilever Brakes - $40 - Ebay.com

I'm replacing the brakes on my recently purchased bike (it came with v-brakes, swapping to cantilevers) and getting some clothes for bike commuting. Now i just have to wait for everything to arrive... :(

roadfix 02-07-07 08:34 PM

Pearl Izumi EKG base layer
DeFeet wool arm warmers
Salsa bar tape

Hopefully I've been putting in a mile for each dollar I've been spending...:p

Anyone experienced problems wrapping new over old tape???? I want new tape, but I'm afraid I'll mess it up. I'm a first time rapper!

ME, I've been considering the same pump.
As was mentioned in an earlier thread, does one lose a water bottle to install the pump?
Once I had 3 flats, and only 2 CO2 catridges. Good thing I was only a couple mile from home by then,
it was a quick walk!

Picked up a pair of Oakley shades!! Great price, so I think I'll go ahead and order a set of polarized lens
for them also!
