I hear you with spinning out! In fact on my other wheel's I was using a Dura-Ace 12-27 with a compact, and I ended up removing the 16 cog, and adding the 11. I am still using the 11-27 DA, but have since bought new cranks/wheel's that take me from 50-36 to 50-34. So in comes the 11-26

Is that the new led NiteRider?

jpconrad 09-07-07 01:55 PM

Yeah, it's the MiNewt X2. I like the old MiNewt, this one's supposed to be a good deal brighter.

I'm avoiding using the HID whenever possible, it's so heavy and takes up a bottle cage.

Take away his credit card.
I thought you had a MTB. You trying to breed them?

efficiency 09-09-07 02:19 AM

I do have a MTB. Now I have two. Actually, my other one was so sucky (craigslist special) that I wasn't really inspired to ride it. Now I'm inspired. My other MTB has a bad bottom bracket that I'm not sure I really want to fix. I'm thinking of taking apart my two beaters and make one mostly functional beater, and then recycling the other frame for scrap.

Your in Poway, Sycamore Canyon and PQ canyon are in your back yard. If you don't know how to ride techy stuff yet, Syc MAY be too much for you, well the route I take will. PQ is nice, pretty flat, some climbs, there are hidden network of trails up top on the north side. We'll have to ride there some so I can show you what I know. I'll be doing more after work rides soon, night riding season is coming near, get a GOOD light. Get HID if you can afford it, there are some cheap but good rigs for about 200 bucks. My cheap halogen light works, but I out ride it at 16mph. Don't ride Syc at night though, too many cats in that place (hence why they close the gate at sunset) I'd stick to PQ and Hodges for night rides.

Is that your blk 350z in the back**********???

Got a bike rack so I can start cleaning up my apartment; but the way it is now, it's difficult to find the floor space for it. :p

Perhaps you need a new apartment for your bike rack.

That's my brother's 350z. It's way fast.

I've ridden Sycamore Canyon a couple of times, usually from the Santee side as I like to finish on a downhill. I the first time I did it on a fully rigid hybrid. In Martha's Grove, I went real slow, stopped alot, walked some sections, but didn't crash. The second time I did it I was on a beater MTB with a suspension fork, and I crashed on a really small drop. I'm going to have to up my skills a bit before trying to clean that section again. It'd be cool if we could do some rides. I'm not that familiar with the trails.

Buying an HID? You're going to make me poor :p

With shoes...it's all about fit. If the PI's fit you, then you're good to go. If you're buying them because they match something, or they look cool, then you'll probably be shopping again in a few months.

Are you running that cassette with Shimano? Ultegra?

How does it shift, especially on the 28? You're the first I've heard to install this new cassette, and in that it technically violates Shimano specs, would be interested in your shifting experience.

I did a loooong climbing ride on Saturday with this cassette. The cassette shifted fine under load. I jumped back and forth between the last 3 gears of the cassette a lot on the climbs as the grades varied. The 50/11 combo was great on the downhills, I could pedal with resistance up to 33-35 mph or so. If you're considering it, I recommend it.

I test drove the 350 before I bought my turbo miata, nice car, but a lil over priced for what it is.

I usually ride Syc from the poway gate since it's less gas to get there. With that DH to Martha's Grove as my warm up. I usually fly down that section, crashed once, went off the cliff after one of the steet drop in sections, my front tire got in some loose stuff and when it strighted it, it pointed me off the drop. Interesting to fry in the air, unclip and push the bike out before gavity catches up. Was funny though. My friend looked back as it happened and he was laughing too. But yah We'lll have to ride there, show you some stuff out there.

What time do you work til, maybe we can setup am after work ride at PQ to get your skills in order on the new bike.

efficiency 09-10-07 07:52 AM

I usually work until 6PM, but I often have other things to do afterwards. I think I'm only free on Tuesdays after work currently.
