Refuse what? Like there was even a choice.

you know, I was so blinded by the red that I don't think I noticed! I think my first course of action will be to jump in the mud or find a magic marker ;)

Well I just got back from Performance Bike with a pair of Cat-1 Gavia Carbon road shoes and a box of Clif Bars for $102.51 :)

Now I have to go make my ProBikeKit order....

voltman 10-20-06 05:48 PM

Those bastards at Performance actually price matched the cranks and bracket from Probikekit. No 15% though. It would have been rude of me to say no.

I dropped by the LBS on my dinner break. The person whose knowledge/opinion I trust most happened to be helping me, and he tells me for plain white bar tape, he'd get the Fizik. Not in stock at the moment, but he can order some for me. Then I tell him what I'm after, and he tells me the whitest bar tape he's seen is the Deda. So I'm getting the Deda white bar tape special ordered in. Should get here late next week. In the meantime, I'll use my off-white bar tape that I installed last night.

I also picked up the thinner Specialized Turbo tubes, which they finally had back in stock in the short valve version. And was so tempted to buy the Ritchey WCS stem; maybe some other time.

So what about the white bar tape on the Specialized bikes, what is that?

The new carbon one?

Have you seen this? It'll match perfectly.

Ok, the fact that that ad mentions "Saronni, Hinault, Lemond and Kelly" as the "golden era of our youth" and "old-school Euro Pro bike racing" makes me feel really, really old.

Yea, I thought that was a bit of a stretch myself. But... I guess I'd better get used to it. :)

It's a pretty good white. But if you look up close, there's some beige/brown spots in it (purposely). It looks pretty sharp, and will probably age more gracefully, but it's not absolute white. The Fizik tape evidently is white with nothing in the way except some perforations. The Deda tape evidently is white with nothing in the way except some subtle embossing. And the Deda tape supposedly is "noticeably whiter" than the Fizik tape. (And it happens to be modestly cheaper, too.)

No... that's the alu one with a carbon wrap. No need for senseless weight. I'll save that for my newfound obsession with bar tape. ;) I don't know if the Deda is the lightest or not, but it should be the sharpest looking. And yes, I saw the Cervelo bar tape. But it's supposed to be just like the Deda. Until someone wants to sponsor me, I'll stick with the cheaper Deda tape.

No fooling. I was racing when Greg Lemond was a 15 year old JUNIOR! Merckx, Zoetemelk, De Vlaemick (sp?) were our heros. Yet we knew how to keep our Tessostar cloth tape white - a liberal coating of talcom powder applied immediately after wrapping the bars.
