You know, that seems to make the most sense, there shouldn't be any kind of problem running with the same manufacturer...at least I wouldn't think that there would be.

Apart from the the Crankset, did you have to buy anything else? (I'm running all Shimano currently, mostly Ultegra but a few 105 parts such as the rear cassette). I'm thinking of attempting to install the crankset myself, but the idea of having to buy more tools that I *think* I would rarely use is not looking too good.

Scootcore 01-19-07 01:43 PM

nope...my DA bottom bracket worked with it, so just the crank!!

Bike is at the shop now, some more probs came up, it appears that the rims I have doesn't have a lip inside to grab the wire bead of the tires, so the tires were sliding off the rim:eek: the rear one slide off and sliced the tube, so that was a nice flat. He's gonna charge me $20 to swap it with some other ones he has in the shop, said they should be better then what I have.

Guy is gonna charge me $10 for the BMX cog, he gave me some used MTB cranks w/ 5 spoke arms for $10 + 5 for the right size sproket and nuts and stuff.

Then $20 for labor for swapping the cranks, re sizing the chain, swapping the tires to the newer rims and installed the BMX cog in the back.

All for $65 out the door:D

*Drool* I was looking at those a few weeks ago. I especially like how they added that no-slip thingy behind the heel area so that the shoe isn't supposed to slip when you are pulling your leg up through the revolution. You'll have to post your impressions!

By the way, what shoes did you have before you got these?

So far I have only ridden up and down my street (dialing in the cleats). But first impressions are very good!! As you have mentioned, the new heel cup system is awesome!
I had the Nike Lance II, and I liked those too.. that is until I bought the Specialized Footbeds. With the added arch support, I started getting hot spots on the outside of my little toes.
So off to find some new shoes. I pretty much tried everything on that I could find, and once I slipped the Sidi Ergo 1 shoe on, I knew it was the shoe for me. But they did not have the Ergo 2's in yet, so I ordered them, and so far so good :)

Were you getting "hot spots" on the outside of your little toe, or blisters/calluses from beting pressed against the outside of the shoe. I've always considered hot spots, more of a burning/cramping feeling, like in the ball or arch of the foot. I'm asking because ever sinceI switched to Shimano shoes, from my Sidis, I've had the little toe problem. It's becomre more pronounced since I got the Specialized footbeds. I keep hoping I'll get enough of a callus, that it won't hurt anymore. It's not a major annoyance, I've been dealing with it for almost a year now. Maybe for my next shoes, I'll go back to Sidi's, I'll have to go and double check that my shoes weren't destroyed in my crash ;)

Hi Pat!! How are you feeling?
I believe I was getting hot spots, as I did not start to experience the pain until several miles into my rides. I have not had any blisters, or calluses. But after my century on January 6th, it was so bad that I almost could not walk. It was at that point that I started my hunt for new shoes.
On a side note, in the Nike I was in a 43.5, and I am now in a 44 in the Sidi.
Hope that helps

I'm feeling pretty good, thanks for asking :) I'll be able to start some easy riding next week, I just hope I can start getting up at the crack again, I'm getting used to sleeping in until 7:00am. Size 48 Sidis fit me so well, that they feel like they're custom made. I got the top of the line Shimano's, because they had previous years models for a great deal. The Shimano's are great shoes, but I'll probably go back to Sidi's for my next pair, the Specialized are also supposed to be very nice, I have their MTB shoes, and have no complaints.

That is great to hear! I look forward to riding with you sometime!
I hear you about the Sidi's, as they fit me "like a glove" :D
I tried both the Specialized Pro Carbon Road Shoes, and the Specialized S-Works Road Shoes. I liked them both, and the Pro Carbon's were my second choice (to the Sidi's)

Those are the shoes I bought to "hopefully" fix my sore feet issue but it looks like it didnt.... I was getting the same soreness as I did with my mountain shoes and SPD pedals...

Road this past weekend and soreness started about 4 miles into the ride...

Are you cleats positioned properly?

I feel they are, but I'm looking for a good place to do a cleat alignment.... if that dont help, off to the podiatrist... then gonna get the hacksaw out and cut the suckers off!! :)

I suffer slightly from "duck feet" and had this issue ever since I was a kid, but when I first got into road riding, I never had issues riding 50-60 miles....

I do get a little sore on my MTB but I can deal with that since im not pedaling like I do on my road bike

here and there 01-23-07 03:19 PM

I've been pretty busy lately...

I bought a Cateye front safety light to replace the one I broke when I crashed.

A planet bike superflash to replace another tailight.

A Topeak compact handlebar bag.

REI Ultrapod (a mini-tripod)

A Canon A530 digital camera with a 2GB memory card from Costco (online) for a grand total of $172. If anyone is looking for a camera, definantly check out the Costco website as all the canon cameras come with the 2 GB card right now.

Gotta love Christmas money ;). I still want to get a decent pair of compact binoculars, a field guide to birds in San Diego, and eventually I want to get a DSLR camera or something with plenty of zoom, and decent sized lightweight tripod to go along with it. As you can probably tell, I plan on doing plenty of birdwatching and I intend to use my bike to get to good birdwatching sights (one is only a couple miles away!)....hopefully by summer I'll have everything I want/need. :D
