I suffer slightly from "duck feet" and had this issue ever since I was a kid, but when I first got into road riding, I never had issues riding 50-60 miles.... I do get a little sore on my MTB but I can deal with that since im not pedaling like I do on my road bike My solution was to make sure the cleat was positioned to the outside of my foot (slid as far as it could go to support the outside of my foot), then I canted the cleat inward just a little bit so my toes were pointed a few degrees away from dead plumb when on the pedals. It took a lot of miles to know that this was the position that resulted in more power, no hotspots, no numbness, and no soreness...and I have a couple of centuries in my resume to vouch for it. |
just sprung for a set of these babies. Great reviews and the price wasnt too bad on Ebay.

Then I had a problem with the Ultegras being only 1 sided (coming from SPD's and Speedplays, I got used to stomp-n-go), so I tried Crank Bros Quattro's. Which I liked. Wide platform, big cleat, but they creaked at about mile 70. Granted, I was probably supposed to lube these as well with some teflon dry lube, but I didn't. Cleats/pedals felt fine, and I was able to position them just as with my SPD-SL's. I used the SPD-SL's on both of my centuries in November/December...but am thinking of putting the Quattro's back on after a few missed clip-ins at uphill stoplights during my Dec. century. I think a wide cleat/wide pedal is needed for wide feet. I ride a super-stiff full carbon soled shoe, but still got hotspots with the small Speedplays and SPD's. |
So what EXACTLY do hot spots feel like??? I never got a good definition of how they truly felt..
|
Your foot gets hot, but only in certain places. It's the combination of pinched nerves and bad blood circulation. It's not physically hot, just a pins-n-needles feeling that's centralized.
|
I'm only getting an achy sore feeling... no hot spots for me I guess.... Mines kinda that sore feet feeling when you walk around a long time but I get it pretty quick into a ride...

Got two pairs of these shorts from Performance in Pasadena. They were $24.97 in the store. Only difference is that they don't have PERFORMANCE spelled out. Just the logo.
http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=1120 Also picked up a patch kit for $1.47 |
A couple of days ago I purchased:
Gyro - Mountain helmet Hoss Shorts air-E-ators socks in black Camelbak - Mule "D fit" Pearl iZUMi Pittards carbon leather gloves Serfas MP-03 Grifter tire pump Shimano M-A80 shoes (kinda wish i spent a little more money for something nicer..... any input?) and a Yakima roof rack for my Subaru STi with two King Cobra racks. (never know when your gonna pick someone up) Trance II is on its way.. but im going to PA for work all next week so I didn't see any point in getting the bike before I left if all it would do is sit here all alone |

Just purchased a '05 Marzocchi All Mountain SL

Cleat failure during the Borrego Sping Century led me to pick these up today to replace my old MTB shoes/pedals. BTW, Ultegra SPD-SLs have been restyled for 2006 so lots of places (like Performance) are selling the 2006s for $99 or less.

Someone at work mentioned that a new PI outlet store opened up in the San Diego area. I haven't checked it out myself, but hopefully will do so soon. It was mentioned to be in the Del Mar Highlands mall.
Otherwise, I haven't purchased anything cycling related for a while. I think I need a pair of airblocking tights. The one I have (DeMarchi contour, non-airblocking) wasn't warm enough during the Stagecoach century. But then again, it seems like the weather has finally started to warm up! :) |
Some minor purchases to clear out a Performance gift card (the rain lately might have had something to do with these):

I just read a chart in RoadForums that says the Specialized tires I've been using (for puncture resistance) are slowing me down by sticking to the road. No wonder I'm so slow.
Where can I get the best deals on Michelin ProRace2's? |
