SART closures...
Hey all,
I was on the south part of the trail yesterday afternoon and was expecting the closure at Warner, Harbor to be passable, it wasn't. MrBeanz and I must have been talking about a different part of the trail, as I thought he said it was open now. You can go through there, BUT you have to carry your bike around the barriers. Has it been opened and then reclosed again???

I might have been unclear, sorry! I meant that you can ride thru there as someone had moved the fences/barriers so that you could slip around the sides. At the bottom of the underpass, there is anopen trench but enough pavement to ride by it. A 4 or 5 foot wide path. I ride my bike around the fences but Gina dismounts for saftey concerns.
When I wen thru ther yesterday, someone had moved the fence half way off from the path so one lane was unblocked.
We rode thru there yesterday about 10:45. I ran over a piece of metal strapping that made a loud noise. Right before I did I saw some guy that looked like you (from the pics you posted). I thought it was you. There was one other guy close behind you. Thought you might have been together. The strap distracted me as I was about to shout,"Ralph?".

OK, that's what I saw also, except when I was out there the baracades were moved back across the trail, one of which you did have to dismount to get around. I had my daughter until about 2:00 so I didn't get out on the trail until about 4:15 and only did about 34 miles, out to Imperial and back.
Funny thing, when I go back I looked at my total time and it was exactly 2:00:00 hours! Yeah I know, 17 mph, but I was taking it somewhat easy as I knew I had to ride my bike into work today.

BUT, average speed changes drastically with the time of day riding cause the wind kicks up.
Last year, I would do 2 out and backs from Weir Cyn. The second out and back was so much tougher cause the wind would kick up big time!

First O&B I would do 18 cruising near Imperial. Sercond O&B, I was lucky if I could do 15 pushing hard, same area.
Last year, a rider said that we were sissies on the SART cause he had to deal with hills and wind in his area. We gathered for a century from Greenriver to the San Gabriel trail. Then down to a park near the Walmart. Not sure if it's Downey area? He swore he could do a 5 hour century. The wind hit when we were on the return. We had a paceline of about 6 guys and couldn't keep it above 15. Ended up with a 6 hour.
He returned to try it again and suffered more the second time! Oh yeah, he's a Triple crown rider.

Yeah, it was average windy for the SART yesterday afternoon. What bugs me is when I ride north from the 405 area in the mornings and you're getting a headwind, only to turn around at green river and get an even stronger headwind coming back. I hate the wind!!!
The wind doesn't blow, it sucks!

The detour on the river trail takes you approx 0.8 miles each way. Its ok, except for the traffic. Heading back to the beach, Segerstrom goes uphill and then you need to cross the street.

Yeah, I live about two miles from there and used to work in the business park on the corner, so when I take the detour I cut through that business park and holler at my old work buddies. In fact, I had to ride to work today from there today because I dropped off my truck for some needed maintenance at the auto shop that’s next door.
The only reason I haven't ridden that way in a while is that the guys I ride with are a little gun shy of the road lately. Also we ride from our respective places of work here in Orange, so we just ride north and avoid it altogether.
Thanks though!

I'd like to ride SART one Day but I don't really know the way, I've ridden it twice from a Fire Station next to the Angels Stadium to HB then up to Seal Beach and back, but how do you get to the Green River start? I've seen it from the 91 fwy...
Also, are all the de-tours you Guys are talking about difficult to navigate? I'm a dopey Foreigner from England and get lost easily....in fact, a couple of months ago I was riding with my LBS, we turned into a Corner that goes into a steep climb and my Chain came off...by the time I got it back on the Group had disappeared and I took a wrong turn...I ended up in Dana Point, it was a nice ride but a bit lonely..

Heading east on 91.Exit Greenriver. Make a right. You will curve to the left and end up at the stop sign at Jack in the Box. Continue straight, you will head down a hill towards the golf course. Parkink on right in a dirt area(can see from the fwy). Trail about 100 yards from there.

Thanx Mr B...so I guess then your ride the Bike parallel to the 91 (west) and find a way under the road?
