(Routeslip seems to be spotty this evening, just keep trying if you don't get it right away. Also, it works much better in IE than in Firefox.)

Who's in?!?

I'll be there and some others are bringing modified route slips, too.

Some don't like the L.A. Ave part, so they want to do the Monday route for part of it. I'll just follow the gang.

I think I'm just going to do the El Camino 45 miler, maybe the May Canyon 44 if I feel up to climbing.

I did the May Canyon yesterday by myself for the first time on a road bike, I usually take my mtb. It's doable with a low gear, but it's pretty steep for about 4 miles and has some short dirt and sand sections. It's steeper and harder than anything else around here that I know of. After you reach Fire Camp 9, you drop like a rock for 3.5 miles back to Little Tujunga on a rough, bumpy road. Enjoy!

Hmmm, I'll do the El Camino route then. I just ordered a 12-27 cassette and a 34t chainring, but until that comes I'm climbing in a 36/23 and my knees don't like it that much.

Brian there is a good chance I will do this ride. I will look for you.
BTW: You are too young to have knee issues. Wait until you are over 40.

Another "be careful out there" ping:

Today, 30 feet in front of me. SUV completely oblivious, hit him square from behind trying to get over to the on ramp.

That's what i'm trying to avoid. If I treat myself right now, I won't be using a cane at 60. I had patellar tendonitis as a teen, so I know it's a high risk for me.

I'm gonna ride the 4 miles from my home to the start. 53 total will be nice.

Is this on Mureau?

I'm not sure, but if I have my bearings right, it was on Calabassas just before you get to the Mureau overpass.

Ahh yes, the T onramp from Calabasas Road onto the 101 south (east). I never understood why they changed the Parkway offramp to be like that. Sounds like she just wasn't paying attention. The visibility is great there and there are nice wide lanes. Might have been putting her make-up on like the lady that almost ran over Mark last Friday.

valleygirl 11-17-06 09:54 AM

Vance who is that? I see Steve and Mario standing , so i know it's not them. I sure hope he isn't seriously hurt. Was this the Wedsday ride?

Nah can't be because Calabasas Rd is really awful terrain and I remember Mureau being pretty nice and paved as in the picture.

In any case, you gotta be careful around those areas. Lots of drivers and lots of cyclist. It seems like the cyclist in Calabasas/Augora seem to break the law more than not(just an observation) so drivers there seem to be really agressive

That's the section that got a major make over to put a new freeway onramp, just west of Parkway by the auto dealers. But you're right, most of Calabasas Rd is poorly paved.

Yep, this happened right adjacent to a driveway going down to the Mercedes (I believe) dealership (service entrance maybe?).

I don't know where the fire station is, but it can't be far, because fire trucks were on scene about 1 minute after calling 911.

By the way, just confirmed that it was definitely Calabassas rd.

I thought they closed that fire station down years ago? Or did they rebuild it?

Hahahah, I'll just ride and blend in

VanceMac 11-18-06 10:48 PM

Nice little century today with SFVBC regulars valleygirl and bigjohn. And nice to meet zzzwillzzz (despite thinking I was scootcore, lol). Hope we get to see you some more -- even if the pace line etiquette is not up to your satisfaction. :)

Mid-November...absolutely unreal weather!
