What a bittersweet day! It was great to finally meet M.E., Joel, and George. But the weather was most decidedly not great.

If I had known you three were detouring, I might have joined you. Not sure why we ended up heading right into the rain! How did your ride turn out?

And John -- how did YOUR detour turn out? I almost went with you guys, but figured by that time, I was already soaked, so just sucked it up. We ended up cutting off the beach portion of the original route, but still managed 86 water-logged miles.

:lol: I have to have the story behind that quote! Vance - we rode away from the rain and had beautiful, sometimes sunny skies up until mile 70. Then we, too, got soaked. But it wasn't too cold and mostly on bike paths, up in the Griffith Park canyons and quiet streets, so the 100 was achieved. I've now done four centuries in one month (one/week)! :eek: I've lost my mind entirely...:p

Oh, and it was very nice to meet you and Cassave by the way! I'm sorry we couldn't have had our century with the SFVBC group! :o :)

We went to the Commons, had a snack, and rode back to CSUN. I can't remember the last time I wussed out like that. I thought more people were going to bail at Topanga. Oh, well.

You didn't "wuss" out, John! Riding on PCH in rain is suicidal (no offense to those of you who did, but I would have cabbed it home!). :o

No one did PCH in the rain, today. And I don't like riding PCH (from malibu to Santa Monica) EVER. No way you could have got me on there today.

Yeah, I did that stretch last weekend. I was lucky that I had two men who sandwiched me in traffic. That helped, but I was so scared, I had bile in my throat (gross I know, but true! :eek: ) I hope to never do it again, and honestly, my buddies and I were planning on going up Latigo today (had weather been cooperative). Oh well, another time...:o

It was never a hard rain. Just persistent drizzle that can take the fun out of most anything, even a century. It's too bad there where so many abandonees since the worst of the rain was over by the time we cleared Santa Sue pass. The final group back to the college was only two, Carrie and I.
Oh well, there's always next week.

You are hardcore, sir. That "persistant drizzle" soaked me all the way through and when I showered my skin was so cold, warm water felt as if it was burning me! No way would I have completed my 100 yesterday if I had continued on the route you guys did, but I'm impressed you stuck it out. :D

Like I said in the other thread (Storm of the Century) it looks like you guys got hit harder than we did.
It never really opened up on us and we even had a little weak sunlight a few times. It did get cold in the afternoon though. We're all spoiled I think. Our soggy brethren in the PNW ride in slop all the time. I know, I spent a year up there rusting like an old gate hinge.

:rolleyes: I suspect I'd rust more than you do like an old gate hinge! Oh, and I heard nice things about you and your designing talents, btw. ;) Regardless, I think I made the right, if not selfish, decision to detour yesterday. I've lost my mind entirely lately. If you saw my apartment right now, you'd agree...:p All I do is ride these days it seems!

Yes, it's a phase. If you're lucky it'll only last 50 years or so.

I see the club has rides in the Santa Monicas on Saturday. I'll probably do something up there involving Little Sycamore, from the Commons. Sunday Stan, Dave, and I will do the Big T ride we did on Thanksgiving. Probably 8 or 8:30 from my house in Valley Glen or 9 or 9:30 at Jack in Box. Intersted?

I think we'll end up in the Santa Monicas Saturday, but I don't have the details yet. I'm planning to ride the mtb on Sunday.

I did that for the first time today with Keith (we looped Decker-Sycamore-Yerba on the way out, then down PCH and back Decker). It was painful, but it's so beautiful back in there.

Up Decker from PCH, Ouch! Now you are ready for Deer Creek.

I may be...depending on how my legs feel and if I want to sleep in and if I can dig myself out from under the mess my apartment is in and if...:p

I'll keep my eyes open for you. Looks like we going to do Latigo, Mulholland to Stunt, up Stunt then back to Mulholland, up Rock Store, then down one of the canyons back to the coast. I've never climbed stunt.

Climbing Stunt is not a problem, not as hard as Rock Store or Latigo. Are you going back down Stunt, or going over to Piuma?

Coincidentally, I heard that there is a renegade sfvbc group riding up to Santa Barbara this Saturday. If so, they will probably cross paths with your group M.E. -- keep your eye out.

Heading on over to Piuma. Then back to Mulholland on Cold Canyon. I think the Stunt, Piuma & Cold Canyon circle off of Mulholland is part of the Mulholland Challenge if I remember correctly.
