What kind of mtb do you have, John? And have you ever done the Thurs night mtb ride that Pete U. keeps telling me about? Since I finally have my lights, I'm thinking about checking that ride out.

big john 02-05-07 07:50 AM

I have an old (1998) K2 that I have replaced every part of except the frame. I have done the ride that they do, just not with them. Just kind of a pain for me to get there on time after work, plus, my light quit working.
I didn't know you dug dirt.

I've only done it a few times... and not for many years. I bought a mtb in 2000 or 2001 when we lived in pennsylvania, and I never got to use it. So it's in pristine condition, and I'm anxious to give it a try.

If we go again next Sunday, you are certainly welcome to join us. It will be about 3 hours of fireroads with lots of climbing at a casual pace. If you'd like to try some technical stuff, I can show you some of that, too.

Thanks big john & thomson,

Found the store, refueled there and had a late lunch after we were done. The turkey Rueben was great, I'll have to try the chili the next time.

Thanks John. I'd love to have you show me some of the trails and fire roads. And if your harem is out in front of us, all the better.

Now it looks like one of them won't be able to make it, so I'm all yours. If you come to CSUN Saturday we can talk about it then, before you roar off with your team.

Is tomorrow going to be a washout?

The last I heard was no rain until later afternoon or evening. I'll be watching the weather report tonight.

VanceMac 02-09-07 03:39 PM

Just did a ride with Steve P. as insurance against a wash out. But it does look like we can squeeze one in tomorrow morning. I'll be looking for a short-ish route tomorrow.

Vance, do you ever really do a "short-ish" route? Be honest...;) :D

Tomorrow for sure! I hate the chore that is washing the bike... and after doing it last week, I am in no hurry to do it again this week!

Edit: And, hey, wait a minute -- YOU are the one who seems to be in "I don't even get out of bed for less than 100" mode. :)

It will be for me. I'll be lucky to get an hour or two in the SM hills early AM, tied up the rest of the day.
See you guys next week, pray for sunshine.

valleygirl 02-09-07 05:37 PM

If it dosen't look too dark and dreary come morning , I'll be at the CSUN parking lot.
Hope to see you all.

big john 02-09-07 06:14 PM

Bring your rain bike.

big john 02-10-07 05:30 PM

Another great SFVBC ride! Big turnout, 75ish miles with plenty of hills and pretty good weather considering the rain scare. Welcome back to Mark!

Are you riding tomorrow John? CSUN, mtb, or otherwise?

big john 02-10-07 06:10 PM

If it's not raining hard, I'm riding somewhere, Vance. I'm waiting to hear from someone later to make a decision. What did you have in mind?

Cassave 02-11-07 02:54 PM

While riding Latigo yesterday (Sat.) morning I'm bloody certain I saw the entire Disco squad. I was riding up from the beach, they where descending toward the beach. All but two guys wearing the new earth from space Discovery kit, the other two guys in CSC kit (Basso?)
Friendly bunch, half of 'em even waved at this old fred.

Wonder if there's any way to verify that it wasn't just a bunch of uber poseurs.

BTW, I think I passed Vertical Bob too. Was thay you Bob?

See y'all next week.

valleygirl 02-12-07 10:23 AM

Someone in the Road Cycling forum said they saw the Disco group last week near Solvang, so your sighting could be them.

valleygirl 02-12-07 10:24 AM

And you are no Fred.

Cassave 02-12-07 11:34 AM

Disco had some big dinner for their sponsors in Ojai on Friday night, so seeing the boys in the Santa Monicas on Saturday AM seems plausible.
