Our LBS owner attended some kind of charity fundraiser that resulted in him (and a large group) getting to ride with Floyd on Saturday. They did Cornell to Mulholland and up Rock Store and beyond. Evidently many of the 'ordinary' riders were doing their best to try to impress Floyd..yeah, like they have a chance to blow him out!

I was told when they reached Rock Store that pretty much did it.

Anyhow, if Disco was out plus Floyd's group, that would have been an interesting day in the SM's!

Floyd's lawyer's office is on Agoura road about a mile from Cornell. I wonder if the charity was FL's legal fund? Too bad I didn't see that group, I came down Rockstore from Kanan at just about 10:30 AM.

Friendly bunch, half of 'em even waved at this old fred.

Wonder if there's any way to verify that it wasn't just a bunch of uber poseurs.

BTW, I think I passed Vertical Bob too. Was thay you Bob?

See y'all next week.

Yup that was me, headed up to Sycamore Cyn. I wonder if that was the Discovery Team since they have 13 guys racing in Mallorca , started yesterday. You can find their web site at "The Paceline"

Any buzz for Saturday's ride?

valleygirl 02-15-07 10:34 AM

I haven't heard a peep.

Fine with me, the longer the better. We'll have perfect weather all day, might as well use it.

Short ride on Sunday, home in time to watch the ATOC on Versus at 2:00. Whoopee!

I'd like to get 100 in on Saturday. Would you be interested in a modified version, if we can get a small group on board?

Sure. We could extend out to Port Hueneme or something.
If it's 100 from CSUN, that turns into 123 for me since I ride to/from the college.
I'll be sure to bring a PB&J or two.

It looks like a nice day to ride up to Newcombs Ranch in the San Gabriels. A.C. is more sheltered as they are predicting winds everywhere. 8am in Glendale, 9am at the Shell Station at Foothill and the 2.

Bob, a couple people are starting at Red Box at 8:30 headed for 39 and back. I don't know what I'm doing yet.

Very big turnout today for some glorious weather. The groups kept splintering throughout the day, exploring respective favorite parts of the coast, valley, etc. Cassave, Valleygirl, and I (and Stan, you lurker) ended up with a group that did went over to Malibu (down Encinal) and then back via Old Topanga, for a little over 80 from CSUN. Can't imagine a better day... though the climbs got a little hot since we haven't shed our winter fur yet.

The weather should be good news for all the Butterfield folks. Look forward to hearing their many tales of adventure and success.

Anyone going to the monthly club meeting this Wednesday?

AkAk2000 02-25-07 02:02 PM

Just wanted to say thanks to the SFVBC for hosting the Balcom Ride yesterday. I tagged along, and it was a great ride. I've never ridden in such a big group. There are some strong riders in that club, and a great mix of folks.

The only person I met who I knew their screen name was Big John. Great guy, strong rider, and true to some comments I've seen bandied about, did seem to have an escort of ladies around him at all times.

Don't know if I ever got to meet VanceMac or Vertical Bob. I was the guy in a blaring fluorescent orange jersey.

Anyway, hope to ride again with you folks. Thanks again.

valleygirl 02-25-07 02:21 PM

AkAk2000 you met me . I was the women with the other orange jersey on , we almost bumped bikes going up Balcom. It was nice to met you, come along on some other rides with us. We always have a lot of fun.

Paul, come out anytime. Sometimes we start from other locations, and I will usually post that info here. I try to put something up about the upcoming ride, especially if it's something special.

I had a great time yesterday, and thanks to the SFVBC for putting on this ride out to Balcom Canyon. And big john.....thank you for slowing down pulling me through Simi and up Santa Su pass on our leg back......I was hurting yesterday. :)

I wasn't feeling so great myself. I was a little sick to my stomach when I got home, maybe from bad 7-11 food. I felt much better today, but didn't have to climb anything in our flat 25 mile ride.

valleygirl 02-25-07 03:48 PM

Fixer it was so nice to finnally ride with you. I was a little worried about you losing your way , when you said
you hadn't been in Simi valley for 30 years. Most of those routes are like second nature for us and we often forget what it like not knowing the area. Join us again soon.

I grew up riding around the Conejo Valley, San Fernando Valley, and Simi Valley, and still got taken for an unexpected ride in Simi on a SFVBC ride. My bail out plan is just to turn around and go back the way I came if I get lost, but that hasn't happened yet. There's usually somebody who is more aware of the members when they take unexpected detours.

Still dreaming of getting my mileage up to do a decent ride with you guys soon.
