Um... my doctor is a perv who rides a mountain bike faster than me on my road bike descending the PVE switchbacks (46mph). Oh wait, you've met him! In fact, you guys were talking about me behind my back!;)

Now we're triplets!

Good news, the fitter has some time tomorrow evening to take a look at what's going on and hopefully get the fitting dialed in. So as long as I can either A) heal up. or B) take enough Advil to feel better for a few hours - I'm riding! :p

You go down that hill at 46 and you've been complaining your bike doesn't descent fast enough?

Bump. Still planning on the #2 ride next Saturday (24th). I hear from the club that none of the rides have 'leaders / sweepers', and I'd much rather ride with a few of the BikeForums crew, who I can ban if they drop me in the middle of the ride, if possible. I know for a few the #2 ride is probably way under your 'level', and it might be mine too. But wanted a fun social ride that wasn't going to hammer on my legs too much as I'll be on a rental bike on unfimilar ground, and having some issues with my right leg still. I'll likely start a specific thread in a day or two about the plan(s). What is the average speed of this ride (since Phil with SFVBC couldn't give me an estimate).

Trust me, you will be well taken care of on any SFVBC ride you end up on. If you are worried about speed, the 1-2 ride is as mellow as they come. Even on the mid-level rides, there almost always is a segment that keeps the pace very reasonable.

Yup. It's the SoCal BFers you have to worry about. Them and their so-called "slacker" pace.

Good to know VanceMac. I didn't lug my riding gear out here for nothing so I'm planning to ride. As soon as the website gets updated with the routes for next weekend I'm going to check them on gmap pedometer to get an idea of elevation gains and might convince the wife to drive them with me so I might have some clue of where the turns are.

Anyone up for a fairly mellow social ride Saturday while still working off Thanksgiving dinner? I usually end my more mellow rides with 16.5-17.5mph averages back in ole big D.

VanceMac 11-17-07 08:00 PM

Cuda, check out Shai's site here: http://www.shprung.com/sfvbc/

In the right hand column labeled "Comments and photos", click on those links and check out the photos to get a flavor for the rides (photos are below the map and elevation data). Lots and lots of photos!

cuda2k 11-17-07 08:29 PM

Thanks for the link. The level 2 ride still sounds like the best bet for me considering the unknown bike and all. The level 3's are a pretty good step up in elevation gain for this flat lander. I'd consider the route if I were out with a couple BF'ers who didn't mind waiting for my struggling rear end at the top of some of the climbs and/or if I were in better shape at the moment but all the time off the bike is still kicking my rear end.

urbanknight 11-17-07 09:04 PM

Most rides break up into smaller groups according to pace anyway. When I was having ITB problems I rode with the 2s often and the slowest groups seemed to average around 12 mph chatting the whole way, while the fastest group averaged 14-16, sometimes more if a group of hammerheads decided to do a short distance.

I might just join you on the #2 ride depending on how many miles I accumulate on Thurs and Fri.

Anybody else think that new Moorpark Metrolink ride would be run to do, but ride Santa Susana back instead of the train? That would make something like 55 miles with some moderate climbing.

Shprung 11-17-07 09:49 PM

Lots of the club members today did level 4, many whom usually doing level 3; not sure why, but probably because the route sheet said only 44miles.
I am sure most of these guys (and gals) didn't visit my map-site to learn that this is a 4,000 elev. gain in like 25 miles
I did this route before & didn't like it at all. Today it was much better because the weather and the large group of riders that are "behind me" (it make all the different in the world when you pass someone...). The road surface still sucks and the grade is nasty for like 4 miles.

Took lots of photos, and here is one for BF that may go as a frontal nude...
See the photos in the route/map page

Lets play with fire: in order to take this photo, I had to pass Ovo, stop, wait, and take it...

urbanknight 11-17-07 10:02 PM

That's more of Ovo than I ever needed to see!

Sorry I missed it today. My wife had to work this evening so I spent the morning with her and did my ride solo in the afternoon. I'll be doing Angeles Crest on Turkey day and some SFVBC routes that weekend.

Thanks Vance.
If you look carfully in the 'nude' photo above, you will see that Ovo holding a camera too.
He did took few photos, so Ovo, lets see some.

ovoleg 11-18-07 12:03 AM

i'll post them, i have to take them off the camera. I took like 30 photos

urbanknight 11-20-07 10:15 AM

So what's everybody doing this weekend? I know I'm doing Angeles Crest on Thursday, and riding with Cuda on Sat sounds tempting. Since that's not that many miles (and riding from my house would be too many miles), I need a decent ride to do Friday to fully take advantage of this holiday.
