What's up with A.C.?
|
I was thinking of joining Herb & Mark doing GMR to Baldy on Saturday. About 60 miles-ish. But, I should bring AJ with me. Too far and hilly for him.

Idunno...alot of climbing. His previous longest distance was 62 miles, but that was only rolling terrain. I'll talk wit im.

Why not bring A.J. to the ride with Cuda on Sat? It's about 35 miles of rolling terrain.
|
Yeah...we'll see. AJ's reached a point where he can handle most distances, but just not the speed (
nor probably the climbing, yet). I'm starting to get a little ramped up in training for next year's races--more speed, more vertical, more distance, etc... But he's only 11. I can't go and drop him and expect him to make it the rest of the way by himself. Eventually, he'll be able to keep up and pass me :D, but not yet ::humble:: It's a good problem to have. :D |

I hope climbing La Tuna twice a week helps. You know there will be slower people on the Sat #2 ride. Are you thinking of joining us for A.C.? |
Still without a bike to ride Saturday. Bicycle Johns wouldn't do a 'demo' for me. :( Going to PM zzzwillzzz about his offer of his old specalized.

Are you thinking of joining us for A.C.? As for me this weekend...I have no idea. My car's in the shop. Currently drive-able, but 1-3rd gears are cracking something, which means: transmission. I just had $3,000 done on the drive shaft 6 months ago. Not again! So, I don't know. |

My knee felt better today, so there's a small chance I'll do the Simi ride. If not, none of the CSUN rides are grabbing me, so I'm considering Baldy lite.
|
I am doing Simi, I don't have the time this Saturday to go to Baldy. Good luck with the knee

I'd take him upon his tandem offer instead. You will get a great ride.

Tell me about this La Tuna, please. Do you mean Tuna Canyon just off PCH in Malibu? That is a beast of a climb if so! It's gotta be at least 20% for long stretches. That's my Holy Grail ride. Every so often I pedal up as far as I can without stopping to measure my development. I've yet to reach the top, which is around 4 miles of climbing. I'll get maybe halfway up, and if I don't like how I feel, I stop. It's brutal on the brake pads having to ride back down, which is why I only do it every so often.
4 miles about 1200 feet elevation gain I think... |

Yeah, La Tuna is the one from Sunland to La Crescenta, about 5 miles from base to crest which is roughly 1200' of climbing. It's a pretty steady climb, probably no more than 12% at its steepest section (just a guess). Here's the route in reverse, so just imagine doing it backwards to get an idea of the grade: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...adena/98883896
Tuna Canyon in Malibu is indeed a bigger monster, but I've only gone down that. If you want a nice climb in that area, I recommend Latigo Canyon, which is a long but steady climb. Then for kicks, climb Piuma to Scheuren so you can go back down Tuna. |

Fun times |
I've been feeling sluggish lately. I was in my 34/24 and 34/21 most of the way. My goal is to make it in under an hour each way (19 miles).
Anyway, nobody doing any SFVBC ride this Fri? Fine, I'll go see if Spingineer is still planning one. I still just might do the new Metrolink ride, but ride back through Santa Susana. *hint hint Mark, you can take A.J. for the 36 miles and take the train home on this one. |
I'm in for Saturday morning, #2 ride. Picking up Luwin's Tarmac later today. Haven't decided between my SS Texas BikeForums jersey or my LS Health Net jersey. It'll be one or the other. Probably not cold enough for my jacket (even for this Texas boy)
