Since I'm just getting over 10 days of the standard sinus/throat/chest thing, I was looking for a nice easy 60 miler today. But "everyone" was doing the PV century. By the time we were done ad libbing, CSUN-PV-CSUN ended up at 108 miles. The last 20 miles were a death march for me. At least now I get to chow down.

PV Century+

Good to see you out again, Vance. 'twas a nice cool day for the ride- wish I had been quicker to realize what was going on when we got split up- I didn't really want to stop at that point to take a break. However, maybe I was better off for it as the ride back with the remaining group was easy paced. Are you doing the Wilson ride from Van Nuys? I'm leaving in an earlier group from CSUN (8am)- leaving for a auto trip to Denver later in the day.

I'm definitely doing the ride, but not sure where I'm starting. I may drive over to the rec center on foothill.

Not "everyone". 5 of us went back via Topanga. Kind of a wussy ride for a Saturday, but I'm dealing with the standard sinus/throat/chest thing myself.
As far as Tuesday, they are working on the 70 year old bridge on Foothill, so it might be better to park at Sizzler instead of the rec center. You can still ride through, but it's kinda hairy.

Thanks John and Herb. Sizzler sounds like the way to go (I can promise you that this is the only time you will ever hear me say that sentence).

well, 5 of us did old topanga > topanga > PCH > rose caffe > sepulveda (we started 5 but ended 4)
It was too hard for my body and my neck is killing me, the lower back too.
So, I will not ride Sun nor Mon in order to have something for Tue Wilson ride.
I have few photos from the CSUN start and the ride and may upload them later.

Today, while more wet than yesterday, we had a small group doing the flatest level 1 ride I remember.
The group actually was 3 times the one yesterday because I assume many felt gilty nor riding yesterday.
The pace was slow resulting in a nice & social ride.
I upload few photos to the route page.

Hey, I see Pete's wife on the tandem -- good to see she has recovered enough for that!

She's doing pretty well, it was her idea to come out today. She still has some pain and other problems, but her atttitude is good. She's been through a lot, you have to admit she's tough.

Can anyone tell me a good training ride (about 30 miles or so) to do in the SFV?? I will be working in Valencia, but will be done by 12:30. I then have to pick up my daughter in Burbank around 4-5pm. That gives me some free time so I'm thinking of throwing the bike on the truck and fitting in a workout. I would really appreciate any ideas.

socaltony 01-09-08 12:44 AM

Also, if anyone wants to ride, I would love the company :D

Like to climb? You could park near Osborne and Foothill, (the Osborne that turns into Little Tujunga), and go up Little Tujunga and come back down. After the first summit there is a descent that you have to remember when returning. If you went over to Placerita and around it is about 40 miles.

socaltony 01-09-08 09:26 AM

Thanks. I'm familiar with it, but I will look it up on the map.

Why not ride in Valencia? Better area to ride in imo, plus you could leave from work and not worry about parking somewhere. Mint Canyon, Aliso Canyon, Boquet Canyon, etc.

RideMore 01-09-08 02:51 PM

You could park in Burbank where you need to be to pick up your daughter, then ride into Griffith Park, maybe hit the Observatory or whatever. You could stay off city streets and be ready for your chauffeur duties!
