Crap, I totally forgot that race is this weekend. My team hosted that race back in the mid 90's, before they changed the course.

Yeah, I thought to myself , I know that guy with the big smile , holding up his arms in victory. Why that's Will who just won the race! Very cool. I wish we could have stayed longer, I really wanted to see the women race.

Hey will, I heard about this warner center race before. Is there any online info about it? I couldn't find any. SO I went to Long Beach instead.

Sorry Will, some of us needed to get back, and we hadn't really planned on going to the race. We didn't know when the race was going to start, we could have stayed a little longer, but you know what a tyrant Sarah's boss is.
Seriously, great job on winning, even staying upright on that course.

zzzwillzzz 05-28-07 10:11 PM

thanks everybody!

mkadam all the race info is at:

Congrats on your win and nice to see you man.
Like John said, it was a trick to get anyone to stop there for even a minute.

If anyone is ever looking for a Wednesday morning ride, here is a link to our usual route.

Roughly: Calabasas - Westlake - Mulholland - Malibu - Topanga - Calabasas. 58-ish miles, about 4000 feet. Riders with a little less time cut out the Malibu - Topanga leg. It's one of my favorite rides: large group, diverse terrain, very social, with a couple (very optional) spirited sections.

Shprung 06-01-07 12:08 AM

what time you start? (aren't Wed. is a working day? I can come a bit late to work or leave early but can't call sick every Wed...)

I'll second that. When I'm not working, I'm there.

Hi Shprung, we roll at 8:30 (Village Coffee Roaster at 23351 Mulholland Drive). If you do the whole ride, we are back to the start well before 1:00. If you cut out Malibu, and keep the Westlake break short, you can probably be done by 11:00 (does that sound right, Mark? I've never gone straight back from Mulholland).

urbanknight 06-01-07 08:32 AM

Hey, I think I'll join you guys on June 27 since I'll be on break before teaching Summer School. That will be a good week to get some extra mileage in.

Yeah...that'd be pushing it but it's do-able. The Westlake break was what...45-mins? I used to get back to the start around 11:15--11:30 pushing hard up the climbs (great training).

Shprung 06-01-07 08:36 AM

Any holyday coming soon that falls on Wed? because from 8:30 to 1:00 (or 11:00) will be just too much for "I will be late to work tomorrow" type of a message; especially when I end up with bicycle, like I can care less about the time. Your said "large group".. How you guys doing it. All retaired, or just so rich, who need work...
When I told my Boss that I will be out for 8 days (I am doing the SF to LA ride at the end of Sep) and I need a donation; he said. I will double the donation if you don't go. I assume 8 days frick him out.

There are some climbs along Mulholland on the way back (or more if you go to the beach). How're your knees? Nothing overly major though. Only one steep one (18%-ish) for 50-75 yards or so.

I'm a school teacher at a year-'round school. I work 4-months, have 2 off. So in Mar/Apr and Sep/Oct, I'm there :)

Maybe you shoulda taken the double-donation? Pay raise?

So far they're doing well. I went to Speedplay pedals which helped, and I have to remember to sit back on my seat (which actually saves my butt too). I am still building up but I know that route and should be up for it by then, barring too many setbacks.

ovoleg 06-01-07 09:29 AM

I werk, whats this about wednesday

ovoleg 06-01-07 09:42 AM

The Wednesday group is kinda large, one time coming from the Getty I saw them climbing up Topanga from PCH.

They owned me to the top because there was huge traffic.
