I'm still racing as a category 1 so it is obvious I am not over it but I sometimes wonder what I will do if we have a boy and he shows an interest in sports.

BTW my stepdaughter is a 6'2" freshman who will more than likely play D1 basketball in college. She has mad academics as well which is what I hope for in any offspring of my own.

Well, I don't stress myself about my boy's cycling per se, and I don't stress it specifically to them. I'd like to get another bike (one that fits my older son better), but I do occasionally run into "I don't wanna ride today" for the 5th day in a row. Since I've already invested $1,000+ for one of them (bike, clothes, shoes, etc), I try to get them both to commit or not. If he's not gonna take it too serious, I debate whether to get him serious equipment.

ProTour? Hmm. <He nervously giggles, betraying an unspoken, vicarious dream...>

^ Heh, when I was 14 I had plans to go to the olympics. By 16 reality sunk in that my body didn't like the amount of self torture required and that olympic medals didn't pay bills anyway. I'm glad my father supported my passions in life while offering sound advice for me to follow or ignore. He only paid for what I NEEDED in cycling, and I had to pay for any upgrades I wanted. That being said, the peak of my cycling career was on a 24 lb steel Centurion with dt shifters and not when I later got an 18 lb carbon bike.

Well, here's an update that might interest you Ovo. Keith just called, and convinced us to join a small group that is doing the Two Tujungas ride: click here.

A little over 70 miles, with sustained but reasonable climbing. It's a very pretty ride. And the group is mixed, not all hammerheads. Anyone is welcome to join. Ovo? Shai?

This is a nice little route. Aside from being typically scenic, it features considerable diversity. Except for the two short climbs up Little T, the first half (blue) is mostly rollers. And then the climb up Aliso Canyon (red) is deceptively steep. Even the descent down Big T wasn't a cakewalk, since a stiff headwind made us work for our return.

whose doing Everest Challenge, Vance? Steve??

Thanks for the pics Shai!

hey who are you, pailrider? hello :)

Oleg-

You know me- big clue- we were on the Rose Cafe ride a couple of weeks ago and then I saw you later that day at Chipotle on Reseda Blvd.

Any pics from the paddle-surf adventure?

Barry is an aero space engineer- hasn't been riding with sfvbc that much this past year- I used to ride with him and Randy on Tuesday eve rides when I didn't have time for Wednesday's- he's a big guy who has a couple of Serotta's- one brown and one red- his job is moving to Golden, CO.

no pics of paddle surfing- the beach w/ the waves was about 1/2 mile paddle from launch point

btw- i have a project that needs to get done at work so no M or W rides until work is done

Bill! Hello :) One of the best climbers in the club!!

VanceMac 09-18-07 03:16 PM

Wed ride tomorrow, as usual. And the weather is just begging for y'all to call off sick from work! :)

A few of us will be diverting from the regular loop, and heading all the way down Mulholland to where it ends at PCH. Probably a little snack at Neptune's Net, down PCH, and probably up Latigo.

I wish...sigh.

mkadam68 09-18-07 03:28 PM

I'm planning on being there. If you can get some other mountain slow-poke to go, I'll be happy to take the detour down to PCH. (Never climbed Latigo before...or is it pronounced Lat-ti-go? Or maybe Lah-tee-go? :evil smirk: )

Cassave 09-18-07 03:32 PM

Well, I'll be working but I did a nice solo out and back on Mulholland on Saturday.
The camp store at Leo Carrillo is still open and the sycamore trees near the coast are already just starting to
turn color. Have fun.

PlanetU 09-18-07 05:17 PM

Is that before or after the Corner Bakery stop? Or are you skipping that?

ovoleg 09-18-07 07:51 PM

Stayed with the group the whole Tuesday ride from CSUN.

This was definitely fun.

The main group will definitely still go to the Corner Bakery, but we will branch off before the break.

Anybody else planning on doing the Sand Canyon Rendezvous on Sunday? I plan on doing the 47 mile route.
(The wife is letting me ride on Sunday because she wants to go to Disneyland on Saturday)

rubic 09-21-07 07:04 PM

Since Saturday looks like it might be a wash, I just might consider Sunday's 47 mile ride.

ovoleg 09-22-07 11:24 AM

Its raining :(

I rode with the Thursday group on Thur, it was fun :) :)

urbanknight 09-22-07 08:18 PM

Ride with us tomorrow, Oleg. The forecast calls for a sunny day in the low 70's. My uncle who just did the Hoodoo 500 might even join us if the family will let him come out and play.

ovoleg 09-22-07 08:29 PM

I'm going out drinking right now

I'll be there tomorrow but not in top form

urbanknight 09-22-07 08:49 PM

Good, I'll be able to keep up.

urbanknight 09-23-07 10:01 AM

Got all the way to Northridge and was getting ready when I noticed something extra in my pocket. I had moved my wife's car this morning to get to mine and I had forgotten to put her keys back! So I got to drive all the way back to give them to her.

I'll be leaving on my @#$%ing God @#$%^& piece of &^%$ solo ride shortly. I hope to catch you all next month!

ovoleg 09-23-07 11:07 AM

8 Newcastles, 4 shots of Don Julios and I rode today...it was good though. I drank hella water before I went to sleep, I chugged 5 glasses(torture).

Rode with the renegades at 8:30. FAST. I stayed with the whole group until the tunnel of Sepulveda when they started sprinting. I was at red already so I just kept a somewhat decent pace and went through, they were all sprinting down the hill now. I just rode down and caught my friend Joe who waited, then me and another asian dude rode back over Sepulveda.

Fun, but really too fast for my liking.

Good ride nonetheless
