You should be fine :), you can always ride to CSUn and then just ride back with the group so you dont have to make double trips

They're going to shut it down soon, anyway. Not enough light in winter.

we didn't even stop last thursday :(

Come out Vance :)

ovoleg 10-05-07 11:42 PM

no one showed up thursday, well one guy showed up to tell me he is going to ride with his wife and then he took off. Oh well nothing too drastic.

Anyways, whos coming out tomorrow and what ride? See you guys in the AM

I'm still planning on the Ring Around the Rose Bowl. I already had the wife move her car and made sure she has the keys, so I won't be driving back early this time. Goodnight!

urbanknight 10-06-07 07:41 AM

Brrrrrr, bringing the arm warmers today. See you there!

My son & I saw you returning under the 405 bridge on Nordhoff--you must have been moving today! We did the shorter route because the wife was needing the car. Of course, she called when I was on the way home, saying she no longer needed the car--I could have done the Rose Bowl anyway

Ah well. I would say you didn't miss anything but it was in fact a pack of about 40 riders all the way through Glendale. I actually ended up following Oleg and his slapstick friends up Verdugo instead of going up Chevy Chase, which cut 9 miles off before the rest stop. When they were ready to head out, I didn't like their plans for the return trip and my tire had gone flat during the break anyway, so I waved them off and fixed my tire. The other group still hadn't made it to the rest stop by then, so I just set off alone and saw you (did you see me wave?) as I was almost finished.

Overall I ended up with 48 miles, but a 16.1 mph pace which is pretty decent for me, especially with the headwind down La Tuna and along Glenoaks!

urbanknight 10-06-07 02:45 PM

btw I need some encouragement to commute to work now. I mapped it out and it would be a 20 mile ride down La Tuna in the morning, and a 20 mile ride up La Tuna in the afternoon. If I did that every Tuesday and Thursday, I could use M/W/F to drive to work and carry my spare clothes for the riding days. The problem is convincing myself to leave the house by 5am in the dark cold mornings. I can handle the ridicule from the students, but the cold bothers me.

Oops, sorry...I was turning onto the freeway.

Just as well I didn't go. I think we've reached the limit mileage-wise my son can do. He said his (just below the) knee was bugging him a little toward the end. His position looks good to me and he spins very well (usually 90+), so maybe we'll back off the mileage a bit, see if that allows his muscles to grow into it more slowly. Of course, he was trying to jam up the (few) hills we encountered :D

urbanknight 10-06-07 02:53 PM

No problem, I did hear you shout "hi Brian!" which is why I waved, of course. But I can kind of sort of understand you looking back at where you were driving after that.

Where is your son's pain? I have been (un)fortunate enough to experience all sorts of it over my life, so I might be able to give some suggestions. I had petellar tendonitis when I was around his age, which is felt on the inside of each knee cap. There was also I rule about pain on the top part of the knee meaning the saddle height was incorrect (I'll have to ask my dad if he remembers which way). Finally, the pain on the outside lower part of the knee cap or just below it or even running up the outer thigh is where my ITBS was showing up... which did not rear its head the whole 50 miles I rode today!!!

Congrats. Hope you continue to ride pain-free.

AJ's pain he said started slightly lateral and below the patella, but above the anterior muscles of the lower leg. Then, it migrated to medial of the patella. Both pains were inside as opposed to on the surface of hte leg.

urbanknight 10-06-07 03:16 PM

It could be tendonitis or ashgudslotters (I have no idea how to spell that). As you said, limit the total mileage but if it gives him trouble again, have him checked out for that. I spent a few years wearing these big blue knee braces that supported the patella. If I rubbed my knees before a race and iced them afterwards, I could usually race without the braces.

ovoleg 10-06-07 06:25 PM

I got home around noon 58ish miles

we didn't go up Mullholland because Mark had to turn around early...lol.

I dont know, people were riding slow today....

You are like an anchor. :)

urbanknight 10-06-07 07:58 PM

Actually, he kept going off the front even though he didn't know the route. I was going to offer him my spare route slip the next time we caught him but the group went off course at that point anyway.

Is that like a bag of hammers?

Mukluk 10-06-07 10:38 PM

Did anyone on the Rosebowl ride have data on elevation gain for the ride? I just wondered, cause I think there were some hills.

ovoleg 10-07-07 12:51 AM

I wish we went up Chevy Chase, I felt good today :(

I went with the break-off group up Verdugo, but I do the main climbs (Chevy Chase and Linda Vista) often, and I think they total 1000' alone.

Got 20 minutes?
Care to see what a fellow SFVBC did last week? (well, in 8 days)
Watch my compilation video of the California Coast Classic arthritis foundation`s SF to LA trip (in short the CCC).
On one of the days, I was with my SFVBC jersy and got few people asking about our club.
I recommand it; it was real fun and my computer shows a total of 555 miles for this trip.

VanceMac 10-08-07 10:27 PM

Nice job, Shai! I can't wait to hear all about it in person.
