Vance what time in the vid is that I was watching it but I couldnt see that part |
Ovo, I can arrage a 'tranning' ride with any of the chics and you can come with me...
Vance, Jan 2006 is all ready after 3 months of cycling, if you get to see some photo before that you will see me much 'larger' size. Here is one when I am trying to do something about it back in 2004. |
Just watched the video.
Ah, so that's where you've been! Very cool. |
So.
Who's riding what this weekend?? |
My wife is going to be gone Fri night through Sat evening, so I'm up for a (moderately) long ride. I was thinking about Baldy with the other guys, but I'm not sure if I can handle quite that much climbing yet.
The alternative seems to be Simi. |

whats with these gay rides you and keith go to do. No one else joins them, so that means you guys must use this as a cover up to go on dates.
I'm on to your plan Vance... |

The club has Mill Creek Summit, anybody up for that? The first time I did it,(circa 1991), I had tonsilitis and was quite sick, suffered in the cold headwind for the 7 miles to the summit, and when I got there, they said "Man, you don't look so good". I didn't feel so good, either. I like to bring extra clothes, now.

5 of us did the Mill Creek ride; me, Sarah, Cathy, clubbie Henry, and a new guy named Adam, who had just done both days of the Everest Challenge. Skies were ominous heading toward the mountains, but once on Big Tujunga the clouds parted and the day was absolutely beautiful. It became clear that we were over dressed, and I was too warm for most of the climbing. It also became clear once we hit Angeles Forest that there would be mega-traffic due to the freeway closure on I-5. It was like PCH all the way over the top, with wrecks, monster trucks buzzing us, and hordes of angry, uptight motorheads.
Aliso Canyon was empty, however, and we sped down to Acton with all our layers back on. Lots of headwinds all the way home to exhaust this big, wide, upright Clyde. We took the bikepath to Newhall and got on the detour with thousands of crawling cars for miles. Over on the SFV side, traffic was backed up on Balboa almost to Rinaldi!! Overall a tough, satisfying ride that took over 8 hours and left me dinghy, well, more than usual. |

We rode Little T/Bear Divide on Saturday, early in the morning about 8:30 and it was just starting to get crazy when we were on it. Climbing from the Santa Clarita side, we had intended to climb to the 2nd summit on Little T and then back and up to Camp 9. The traffic on Little T/Sand Canyon was very busy. I can't tell you how many times we had to deal with a motorist coming up behind as another one was descending. You were just hoping that one of them would yield to the other, so you wouldn't get hit. By the time we got to Bear Divide, we decided only to go up to Camp 9, pea soup fog all the way, about 100-200 ft of visibility, not bad going up, but a very slow descent with such limited visibility. Because of the shortened route only ended up with 3500 ft of climbing instead of 5000 ft.
Traffic was getting heavier as we came back down, later in the day it must have been crazy. |

It's a good thing you didn't take Little T back. I met a guy at Camp 9 yesterday who said that it took him 1 1/2 hrs to go over Little T on Saturday in a car. He said some knucklehead took a big rig up there. :mad:I couldn't believe they were advertizing that as an alternate route.

John or Bob,
Irene is looking for a long ride with lots of climbing. Either one of you planning on doing one this weekend? I'll be in Solvang sagging for the Double, otherwise I would put something together. |

I don't have any plans yet but it will be something long with lots of climbing. I've talked to a couple people about going up Hwy 39 on the 27th. Would you guys be interested in that? This time of year it's had to predict the weather in advance but I may go up 39 this week as well.
On the 27th, our club is doing the Tour of the Tujunga's starting from the Santa Clarita Side, Little T and then Big T. So we won't be able to join you on that ride. |
Anybody doing the 36 mile ride starting at Traveltown? I have to be home by 10 so I'm going to ride there and cut out on Lake to go back home.
|
Mario and I are leaving from the rec center on Foothill at 8am tomorrow. We're not going really long, probably a Little T loop, or maybe Big T/Wilson. Anyone is welcome to join us.
|
Might see you out there Vance - I'm leaving at 7am from Glendale and planning a little T/Soledad/Angeles Forest loop.
If I make it to little T by 8am, I'll wave as you guys pass me :) |
The club ride for Saturday/Tomorrow will be somewhere in the area too:
ride # 204, a 78.8 miles with close to 5k name "Angeles Forest Frolic" If I don't have to be early back home, I will do this one. |
