ovoleg 10-20-07 09:00 AM

riding the fixed gear to the convention center and back

I'm going to be doing the chill rides alot more now

mkadam68 10-21-07 05:48 PM

So...is anyone going to the Monday morning ride?? :D :D

VanceMac 10-21-07 06:04 PM

Hey Mark. I e-mailed a few of the regulars, and I think we're going for it. We'll do the eastern route, though, out to Montrose and back. See you there?

mkadam68 10-21-07 07:02 PM

Umm...we'll see. I'll plan on it, however, the Agua Dulce fire is knocking on the door of my neighborhood. Helicopters/planes are flying over my house about every 30-40 seconds. I live in a big neighborhood (lotsa houses) so I think they'll probably do whatever they need to and put it out. We'll see.

Cassave 10-23-07 11:17 AM

The club ride schedule for Saturday features 2 rides into the Santa Clarita fire area.
Gee, prolly not a great idea.

Parts of the Santa Monicas will likely be closed as well.

Anybody got any great ideas for an alternative?

I'm doing my PV training ride, Steve.

I don't like the Castaic Lake route anyway.

How do you get to the start of the PV ride and when do we start?

Happytime 10-23-07 12:29 PM

I'll probably start at the Redondo Beach pier around 6:45-7am.

urbanknight 10-23-07 12:57 PM

Then what? Down Catalina to the start?

Hi Brian

I updated the link to include the RB pier. ;)

urbanknight 10-23-07 01:16 PM

Thanks. You're such a sweety. I like to know the route so I can tell people to go on without me if I get tired, get a flat, or get attacked by wild animals.

The only thing you need to worry about is getting lost, so bring a map! :) And animals? Don't worry about those creepy jungle-monkey calls. They're just the hormonal peacocks looking for love!

EDIT: If you want to hammer, the Donut Ride goes off at 8 o'clock.

Scootcore 10-23-07 03:53 PM

i may just hammer donuts...

urbanknight 10-23-07 10:09 PM

I think I'm actually going to join Joy on the PV Loop, depending on the smoke of course. I also invited my wife's uncle to come along, seeing as he lives in Torrance. 40 miles will be a "short" ride for him.

urbanknight 10-25-07 12:55 PM

Uncle says he can probably make it to the PV Loop. He also suggested adding Corownview from PV Drive for a nice climb. Anyone interested in that?

mkadam68 10-25-07 06:05 PM

Hhmmm...I'm seriously tempted. I ended up taking this week completely off. I'm thinking I should also take next week off as well, but...that's hard. Of course, AJ doesn't quite understand about rest/recovery and was a little depressed we weren't out riding. This just off his longest ride ever: 55-miles at the Antelope Valley Metric!! (in brutal headwinds, I might add)

I'll have to look at my schedule and see.

herbm 10-25-07 10:15 PM

What time is the PV ride? Since GMR is closed we may come down there if its not too early....none of Joys 5am rides I hope....

VanceMac 10-25-07 10:23 PM

Hey Herb, I know there's a group doing the Ventura-SB loop on Saturday, as well, if that interests you...

Where are they starting? I think I will climb up 33 to Pine Mtn and back with Laura.

VanceMac 10-25-07 10:40 PM

They usually start near Grant Park in Ventura, out to [edit] Lake Casitas, up to SB, sometimes Hope Ranch, then down PCH.

It's a Joy ride alright, but she said 6:45/7:00. If you want to join, I'll carpool with you. I might be adding a climb with my uncle, which I think will bring it to about 45-50 miles.

Castaic, or Capenteria? It's a long way from Ventura to Castaic, back to Santa Barbara, and then Ventura.

Edit: I guess Casitas is another option.

Bleh. Thanks. I meant around Lake Casitas. :)
