Who are these renegades who leave at 8:30 am? And where do they ride? Also how come there are so few women in the SFVBC? I think there were only four women on the 8:00 am ride.

Mukluk 09-23-07 10:13 PM

There are plenty more than that, although a good number of them usually do the #1 or #2 rides at a leisurely pace.

The renegade thing goes back as long as I have been a member ,(1989), at least. It's usually some fast guys, racers, and wannabe racers who don't want to use a route slip. They decide the route at the start, and usually don't go long, maybe 60-70 miles, tops. They used to start at 8:10, or so. I think everyone is welcome to go with them, depending on who is there.
I think there is only something like 10-15% women in cycling, overall. Sometimes our rides have more women. I do lots of remote rides and a lot of the strong women riders in the club join on these rides. Some of these remote rides have more women than men. When you feel like doing some climbing you should try one of our remote mountain rides, I always post on BF about them.

urbanknight 09-24-07 09:22 AM

^ The last remote ride I went on (Hidden Valley from Agoura a week ago) there were 3 women and 4 men.

Too bad more of you didn't come out for the LAW GT lite yesterday. As far as I could see, the entire
SFVBC representation was limited to Stan and I.

Great weather! I started at 6:15 from Woodland Hills and rode thru Topanga in absolute privacy. Didn't see
one car on the road all the way to PCH.

ovoleg 09-24-07 01:47 PM

Steve those events cost money, for something I can ride any day of the week...I dont feel like paying for it.

Dude that one girl that stars on Tues is fast...she can drop me very easily.

There are plenty of girls in SFVBC. Cathy and Karen are two examples of very strong female riders!

And Sarah, and Sue, and Lea... not to mention the Big John/VB contingent...

Big John is a girl now?

jwsel 09-24-07 08:40 PM

There are definitely plenty of strong women riders.

And then there are women riders like me . . . .

VanceMac 09-27-07 05:35 PM

Keith, Manny, Jon (whitecarbondude), and I are doing AC on Saturday. Perhaps a couple others, and all are welcome. Starting near AC and Foothill at 8am.

Keith is planning it like a dry run (roughly) of Angeles Crest Century. He's looking at 100 miles with 11,000 feet of climbing, but with the route he has planned, there are plenty of places to cut it short.

Nice. You should have great weather for it. I'll be thinking of you guys as I ride
along the San Simeon coast, eating gourmet fig newtons on the Lighthouse.

It was perfect... absolutely perfect weather up AC today. Good to see Jon (WCD). Tons of folks taking advantage of the weather today up there -- lots of roadies, maybe even more MTB'ers shuttling up for a downhill bomb, and more motorcycles than I've ever seen at Newcomb's Ranch.

ovoleg 09-29-07 07:50 PM

hella roadies today on the streets

it was cold for me, and my knee was acting up.

Left early because I had to be in LA for work.

Hella fun, that guy on the Kestrel with aero bars passed me on the steep section of Santa Sue at around 13-15mph, I hung on his wheel for about 10 seconds until I blew up. Damn that guy is FAST!

We had the place to ourselves on the other side of the mountains on Big T, especially on the climb to Mt. Gleason even though it was visitors day at the p camp:)It was chilly on the North facing side. Wow Vance, you started at 8am, rode 100 miles on A.C. and were home before 3pm, good job.:D

Actually, I was home by 1:30. But... only 66 miles. ;)

ok looking forward to the weekend already, who's planning on the Ring Around the Rose Bowl? It will feel counterproductive to drive from Pasadena to Northridge just to ride to Pasadena and back, but it's a nice route.

We are rolling at 8AM from my place in Burbank...
onto the LA river path to Los Felz then up chevy chase...we figure to the top of Linda vista/Lida is an hr?? so about 9ish??
Then down lida around the RB - back up salvia -linda vista - highland - chevy chase - descanso
we head into montrose...with a rest stop at my office...(right below honolulu) then up Park to Crescent and up to foothill(short and steep) then down to descanso - chevy chase - figueroa - linda vista - down into glendale...

Hope to meet you up there...we will be at least 45-60min ahead of the club ride...route is similar but we come back the same way...

cool i'll see you then Sat morning.

La Tuna is ez, I'm sure you'll be fine. Hows the knee?

urbanknight 10-03-07 09:43 PM

The knee was giving me slight pain yesterday (climbing up Lida and then up Chevy Chase... both steeper than La Tuna iirc), but not enough to stop me or slow me down. The pain really only hits me now when I get lazy and lose my form. I'll be doing a short but fast ride tomorrow, and I don't anticipate any problems.

ovoleg 10-03-07 10:00 PM

doing the Thur ride from CSUN tomorrow if anyone is interested. Last one I can do for a long time, anyone in for a sprint on Victory?
