Cool, thanks.

OK I'm definitely in for the Hidden Valley loop, and am trying to get my wife's friend to join. He just started road biking when he bought a road bike to "commute to work faster" than on his mtb. Now he's hooked!

pailrider 09-13-07 10:36 PM

So long Barry ride

Looks like the weather will be nice for it. Who's in?

Ovo - blow off the rose cafe ride and come climbing with us.

Steve-
there's a group leaving Sundance Bike Shop at kanan/101 at 8am- one of the club members, Barry Carson, is moving to Denver area, so we're having a "Good-bye Barry" ride-out thru Hidden Valley, down Portrero to PCH south to Encinal and back to Sundance- about 60 miles- some may be meeting at the Commons at about 7:30 for the ride over to Sundance- you, Vance, and Oleg and more should jump aboard.... hope to see you out there~!

VanceMac 09-13-07 10:45 PM

Sorry Mr. Rider, I'm headed up AC on Saturday, with Keith, Stan, and Mario. Thought we could convince you too, but I guess you are heading out on the easy ride? ;)

pailrider 09-13-07 11:23 PM

Easy ride

AC sounds great but it's about saying good-bye to a guy I've spent a lot of time riding with- will hook back up with you guys next week-- did you throw something extra in on Wednesday? I'm recovering well from my Wednesday mostly under water instead of on top of it...

VanceMac 09-13-07 11:24 PM

Who is Barry, have I met him?

Any pics from the paddle-surf adventure?

valleygirl 09-13-07 11:31 PM

Looks like I'm out for this Saturday, catch you all next week. Have fun.

Hey, Brian...what's the topography of this Hidden Valley loop? I couldn't find it on Shai's website and I'm looking to find something for my two boys to possibly join on. Our alternative is the 41-mile Chatsworth Town Tour (although AJ & I have done this before and would like try new routes).

ovoleg 09-14-07 12:25 PM

I'm doing santa monica moan most likely.

hey who are you, pailrider? hello :)

VanceMac 09-14-07 12:36 PM

I thought you were going to do AC one of these days, mr. revisionist history? Still scared?

I can't do a long sustained climb like that with you and Keith. I'm going to be riding it alone after I get dropped...I'm good for about 1/2-2/3 of the climb until I blow up.

VanceMac 09-14-07 12:53 PM

Well, here's an update that might interest you Ovo. Keith just called, and convinced us to join a small group that is doing the Two Tujungas ride: click here.

A little over 70 miles, with sustained but reasonable climbing. It's a very pretty ride. And the group is mixed, not all hammerheads. Anyone is welcome to join. Ovo? Shai?

ovoleg 09-14-07 01:04 PM

I can't sorry Vance, I have a date and a meet with an old friend around 3pm so I have to be back and showered in a reasonable time. The Santa Monica Moan I can either skip the rest stop or hammer on Sepulveda to get back sooner.

Next week for sure!!! Unless you are doing Everest Challenge???

I like that ride, 8500 feet, or so. Who is going? I already told Sarah I would go on the VB ride.

I mapped it on mapmyride last night. My own version is on routeslip but that's not working for me right now.

This is pretty close to one of my favorite rides when I lived in Agoura. It has two moderate (but fairly short) climbs which are over in the first 15 miles and then smooth rollers all the way back. Total elevation gain is still less than 1,000' and the views are spectacular. The boys should love it.

Oh yeah, Vance once did this route on a (edited) single speed if that helps at all.

That was my first SFVBC ride ever! I got a flat, and I thought that 1000 ft of elevation gain was downright mountainous. :o

And, just for the record, it was a single speed. Freewheels are your firend. ;)

urbanknight 09-14-07 04:52 PM

Edited. Thanks.

I'm going to write that down, and never ride up there again...

I'm not sure if Mark and the boys decided on the Agoura ride or not, but an accident stopped traffic heading down the 405 for a while. We waited 15 minutes for anyone else caught in the mess, then went on. I think I was the only person in that group under 50! Still a nice ride.

Mmmm..no. When I got up, the boys were still sleeping. I figured they'd been up late all week, so, I left them. Rode up here instead, doing about 70-miles up San Francisquito Canyon to Green Valley and back.

Sorry I missed you (but not the traffic :D ).

What a nice Dad. I often wonder what I would do if we had a boy. My Dad always stressed academics and didn't stress about my cycling. My father in law on the other hand was the opposite. Now I have a bachelors and a law degree while my brother in law is in the protour with a high school diploma. I'm still racing as a category 1 so it is obvious I am not over it but I sometimes wonder what I will do if we have a boy and he shows an interest in sports.

BTW my stepdaughter is a 6'2" freshman who will more than likely play D1 basketball in college. She has mad academics as well which is what I hope for in any offspring of my own.
