Vance stop slacking, come out you bum.

urbanknight 09-07-07 10:52 AM

Cool, that's the 2 Topanga Tops. Oh, that means the pace will be faster if you're going.

ovoleg 09-08-07 05:42 PM

I saw urbanknight today and he was riding pretty strong

VanceMac 09-11-07 05:39 PM

Just a reminder of the usual 8:30am ride starting from Calabasas Wed morning. Going to be warm tomorrow, but we'll be on the beach side long before it gets hot.

Thanks, but you didn't see me on the way back. I almost cried like a baby when my knee flared up. I did some one legged drills (my left leg will be uber strong soon) down LA Ave and the knee was ok for the climb back over Santa Susana.

It made me think maybe you're right about it being psychological since it usually bothers me when I'm alone. But the sharp pain that stopped my legs instantly told me otherwise.

I'm gonna try another 30-40 mile ride on Thursday since I have it off of school. Anybody have any reason not to go down La Tuna and up Sunland between 8 and 10 in the morning?

La tuna is fine, some traffic but shouldnt be too bad...sunland has a pretty narrow shoulder, so be careful!
Then there is the rest of climb up foothill...did that Sat...just watch for the people not paying attention as they pull out or open their doors...

urbanknight 09-11-07 09:28 PM

Thanks! Maybe I'd be better off going down Sunland and up La Tuna since you spend less time going down and more time going up.

Brian, my advice; don't ride on Sunland Blvd. Ever. Take Wentworth instead. Yes, I know it's pretty beat up and the white line is so thick it can cause you to crash, but it's a lot better than Sunland. Wentworth will put you on Foothill at the bottom of a small climb below Sunland. Riding Sunland Blvd is crazy.

John is right....Wentworth is nice and quiet....has a larger shoulder....from Glenoaks in about a mile or its pretty bumpy, but it smooths out towards foothill...

urbanknight 09-12-07 09:08 AM

Thanks, I'll consider that. I currently take Wentworth to work so I'm familiar with the route. It does get very little traffic and has a great shoulder at the bottom. It is a little concerning that when I drive 55 down that road people pass me like I'm standing still, but I do see few cars at 7am.

Back on topic, anyone going to the remote start in Agoura this Saturday? I think I'm at least going to do the 31 mile route, maybe the 59 if I feel up to it. If anyone hasn't descended W Potrero, it's a trip. You can't get much speed most of the time, but neither can the cars.

Great turnout today, and a great day for riding. Good to see Shai (even though he left early to go to work) and Mark (even though we ended up on different routes). Hey Valleygirl, are you busy with work these days?

ovoleg 09-12-07 06:40 PM

thanks for the invite Vance :(

VanceMac 09-12-07 06:42 PM

Which one do you guys recommend?

Slow, avg of 11mph on a flat route. I usually ride about 3 hours, about 2/3 times a week. The only thing stopping me from riding longer is the numbness on my toes, which I'm still trying to figure out.

urbanknight 09-12-07 09:11 PM

shakeNbake, Try one of the #1 or #2 rides. http://www.sfvbc.org/rides.php That level usually has a group of riders who keep a decent pace and then a group of social people who just cruise around 10 mph the whole route while talking. Raise your hand when they ask if there are any new riders and someone will usually help you out a little, especially if it's the first Saturday of the month when they have an orientation ride.
