Cassave 12-22-06 09:58 AM

Looks like tomorrow will be nice weather, warmest day in 2 weeks.
Anybody looking to do the Monte Nido long version??

urbanknight 12-22-06 11:24 AM

I'm probably going to do the Where's the Lake to save my knees, but if I'm feeling up to it, the long Monte Nido isn't much longer than the short one so I might take that.

awiner 12-22-06 12:08 PM

Depending on my motorcycle riding schedule tomorrow, I might try to meet up with you guys at the T-intersection at Mulholland and Old Topanga Road. That seems to be about 12-13 miles in from your start. What approx time do you think the group will pass there ? 8:30-8:45 ?

urbanknight 12-22-06 12:12 PM

That group usually starts the ride around 20 mph (it's a slight downhill through the valley) so 8:35 would be a safe bet.

I just realized that route goes up the hills that killed my knees last month. Although I have much better gearing now, I might have to avoid the hills for a while.

Cassave 12-29-06 05:50 PM

This thread has been quiet too long.

Looks like the Santa Monica ride is getting the most hits on the SFVBC website.
Anybody doing that one?

ovoleg 12-29-06 05:51 PM

I might I'm thinking about it!!

valleygirl 12-29-06 06:33 PM

I'll be there at CSUN. There is a few guys who want to go back through Topanga after the stop at Rose Cafe. I'm planing on that route.

urbanknight 12-29-06 06:58 PM

I'm off the bike until my doc tells me what I did to my knee. What a waste of a 3 week vacation. 3 rides and 2 of them simply proved that climbing more than 500 feet in a day hurts my knees! Have fun, see you next year I hope.

Sorry to hear you are out of commission. Well, I hope you heal up quickly....and we expect to see you at the shop ride in a few weeks! Happy New Year!

Sheldon

urbanknight 12-29-06 09:08 PM

The Bike's in the shop right now actually. I told James to take his time since I won't be using it soon. Actually, I plan on doing 10-15 mile spins around the bike path if the doc lets me, but no climbs... ouch!

Cassave 01-02-07 12:36 PM

To those who missed the Mt. Wilson ride, too bad. It was a windy, gusty cold ride but very worth it.
The road was clear and dry all the way to the top, the view was great and the group was strong and fast.
Happy New Year.

Strong and fast? Speak for yourself. Oh, thanks for hanging back and chatting with me for awhile. What are you doing Saturday?

Saturday? Oh, thought I might take a bike ride.
I'm thinking the Beauty and the Beast ride but I'm flexible.

VanceMac 01-04-07 06:40 PM

The last time it was calling for this much wind, the group improvised and ended up on a route to the east. I think it helped a little (?), and I'm all for minimizing wind.

The group? Not our group, you dumped us for that other group. Actually, the Beauty and the Beast rides are good when it's windy except for the return north afterward. If it's not windy, I might want to do something longer.

VanceMac 01-04-07 11:04 PM

You're so mean, Big Bad John! I'm pretty sure you guys are the ones always dumping me... :)

urbanknight 01-04-07 11:22 PM

Saw the doc today, and the good (or bad) news is he doesn't think I tore anything, rather it's a repetitive motion inflamation. He says you can't tell how long you have to stay off the bike, so I have to just test it out on light rides to start with. Here's the kicker: It might not matter how long it takes for that to heal because he says I can't drive or ride until a neurologist clears me regarding a fainting episode I had recently. I'm sure it's nothing, but I need to get the gamut of tests (ctc, blood work, holter monitor, etc.) done to be safe. But really, I don't think there's anything abnormal about passing out in bed... with your wife... NOT while sleeping ;)

That knee problem might be helped by cleat adjustment, or switching to a different kind of pedal, and ice it after riding. Can't help with the other thing.

Maybe the bike isn't to blame.
Are you sure you didn't wipe out your knee in bed... with your wife... NOT while sleeping?:D

urbanknight 01-05-07 10:42 AM

lol Cassave, no I'm quite positive I busted my knee while trying to follow my uncle 51 miles through the Santa Monica Mountains with only a 34/23 as my lowest gear. Good suggestion Big John, I'll check the right cleat when I get back on the bike. I might hae to switch back to Look since those always seemed to feel better.

John;

I promise to make the ride back up to CSUN if we go south tomorrow. I've missed two times now to mechanicals (mine and then Debbie's) so it's my turn to take a few pulls into the inevitable wind.

It's not a problem, I'm so used to getting dropped or getting drafted by others, I don't mind that stretch into the wind. By that time the ride is just about over. I don't know how much draft I'd get off of you, anyway, j/k.

Just curious.....why isn't there a link to SFVBC on the very first page? I thought I'd check out the list of Saturday rides happening. I already have the link but perhaps others might find it convinient...:)

Good question, maybe we'll fix that. Are you coming to one of our rides? Someday?

valleygirl 01-05-07 09:30 PM

I will be at CSUN in the morning. I was thinking the ride in the Santa Monicas. I hope it won't be too windy there. Anyway see ya all there.
