Wow, I wish I had known it was such a large, well-organized event. I probably would have braved the wind. I'll know better next time!

Vance, Keith insisted there was no problem with the wind out there. On the other hand, there was plenty of wind today, especially going north from Ventura back to CSUN. We still had a fun ride, though. Are you doing the century next week?

Yea, I'd like to. Should I go ahead and register, or is it one of those where you just show up with the fee?

vertical bob 12-03-06 08:49 PM

They want you to reply by e-mail to let them know how many are coming but you pay at the start. I think its $20 + an unwrapped toy or an $20 donation to their charity. Plantet Ultra.com

VanceMac 12-04-06 09:21 AM

Okay, I'm in. Looks like only the one climb back over the Santa Monicas. Should be a fun ride!

Got back at 3:00. Can't wait to hear from Bob and Keith about the Castaic ride.

John;
Sounds like you and Debbie made it back to CSUN in good time. My cracked crank arm did make it up the final hill to my house but inspection later showed that it had made it's way a full 1/3 thru the arm.
I'm glad I noticed the crack when I did, if I hadn't babied it, I think it would have actually blown. Got a new Chorus crankset on order anyhow.
That descent down Decker and Encinal was perfect. See you guys soon.

Isn't she something? She was nice enough to wait for me to get a drink on the way back, and she kept pulling away into the wind. Of course, she has about 1/2 the surface area that I do.

Yes, very nice and an excellent rider. I'm sorry to have abandoned you guys but I was concerned about that fractured crank arm. It would have been better to have 3 of us into the wind going back up to the college. Fairly epic day that was.

Re: The Planet Ultra Xmas Century Ride, how do you guys think the Encinal climb at mile 80 will be ? :)

Encinal is the easiest of the canyons, in my opinion. I had trouble on it last year, though. We out-rode the SAG and I was out of food and water until half-way up when she showed up. I was fine after that, but some had trouble on the small hills after Encinal. The support is minimal at best.

Hopefully we won't outrun the SAG truck this time, or, if not signed up, just stop for food and water at Neptune's Net on PCH.

I think a quick stop for some light food and liquids would be a perfect idea before the crossing of the Santa Monicas.

Seems like there will be a very large SFVBC contingent at the Planet Ultra xmas century this Saturday. Look forward to seeing everyone!

valleygirl 12-07-06 02:24 PM

I'll be there with sandwich, gu and bars. I'll not be bonking this time due to lack of food.

Great Cathy, so you are bringing lunch for all of us? I'll have turkey on whole wheat.

Cassave 12-08-06 01:59 PM

Well, I just RSVP'd to Planet Ultra so it looks like I'm in for tomorrow.
I'll see you guys at the Commons.

valleygirl 12-08-06 02:11 PM

Ok Vertical , Mustard on that ? I was thinking of starting at the Albertson's parking lot at 7:30 and riding over to the start just so I could finish a little earlier.

Would a little Grey Poupon be too much trouble. Where is Albertsons? Where we start on Valley Circle by McDonalds?

I think she's talking about the Albertson's at Agoura Road and Las Virgines.

If weather forecast holds, it is possible that the entire weekend will be a wash. If anyone is interested in a ride on Friday, let me know.

Mario usually does the Mt. Wilson climb on Friday mornings, which (according to him) is 2 hours up, 40 minutes down. I will probably do that, unless we can get a longer ride organized.

awiner 12-13-06 08:05 PM

I met some of you at The Planet Ultra Club Xmas Century this past weekend. Bruce had introduced me to Caren and RJ (and some others) at the Mobil station. I met Mario while he was in the middle changing his tire (The first flat) on the side of Lynn !

Good ride... Will definitely get together for some others including some of the Wednesday morning rides sometimes.

Adam

Well, looks like we'll be able to get a Saturday morning ride in, after all. Who is showing up at CSUN tomorrow?
