Gee...here I thought you were doing the Simi ride again. I was thinking of doing it too :D

urbanknight 11-08-07 07:55 PM

Mark, Vance, and anyone else free on Monday: Any rides planned for Veteran's day? I'd like to get some decent miles in since I probably won't be able to ride Thursday (parent teacher conference night).

For the 86 miler on Sat, about how long does that take total? I plan on taking the wife to LACMA at 4pm and then to dinner, so I want to be sure I'm back by then.

VanceMac 11-08-07 08:02 PM

Brian, your best on Monday is probably the regular Monday ride from Northridge (Plummer between Shirley and Corbin). It usually heads out to Simi and back for about 40 miles.

Sat -- 4pm is quite possible, but sometimes those large sfvbc groups like their breaks. Heh. I think you could make it... but no guarantees.

urbanknight 11-08-07 08:07 PM

I know what you mean on those breaks (I've seen people order whole meals before). I think I'll play it safe and do the Agoura Corridor... maybe the Simi ride (since I know the area in case I get dropped). She's actually considering letting me race and the last thing I want to do is show her that I can't keep promises because of my riding. That Monday ride sounds nice, I think I'll do that.

Shprung 11-09-07 12:28 AM

The #214 is ~86miles with 5.5k so we should be back by 2:30PM (even with 2 breaks)
I am in. (with the ride to CSUN & back it will be a nice Century)

ovoleg 11-09-07 01:24 AM

Exactly what I was thinking, round trip from my house, 108 miles.
There's my November century.
See you tomorrow.

Oh Oleg. One day you will learn the real truth. Man's domain is the garage. Woman's domain is the house. We like it that way... less to clean.

Seriously, she's not stopping me from going on the longer rides. She asked me last night how long I'd be gone (well, phrased "will you be gone ALL day like last weekend?"), but I did promise to take her to the museum and (she doesn't know this part) to a special resturant afterwards.

I'm not sure if I can handle that many miles yet anyway. Angeles Crest was torture. Half way through Upper Big T my legs screamed at me to stop. By the time I finished crawling the second half of 66 miles, my average riding speed was 12 mph and my actual average (including the 30 minutes of not moving) was about 10. It looks like a great ride, but I think I would take 8 hours to complete it.

Come to think of it, he might show up for the 5 tomorrow, but he'll hop off at mile 25 and be home posting on the forums by noon. lol

A few weeks back we were all going to do a 85 mile ride, and Ovo turned around saying 85 was too looong.
Be a Man Ovo. :D Seriously everybody is going , it will be fun.

Ovo has no endurance. He could make 85 miles easily, but he doesn't have the discipline to keep the pace under 25 mph.

It seems like everyone is doing this ride. I'm really tempted. Maybe I'll plan some bail out routes and could even ride home if time is limited, then pick up my car later.

urbanknight 11-10-07 12:32 AM

OK I printed out both route slips and we'll see how I feel in the morning. I'll be at CSUN either way. Time to get some good sleep and eat a good breakfast in the morning.

VanceMac 11-10-07 04:51 PM

9:00am: Cassave announces he's taking it mellow today, enjoying the scenery.
9:05am - 2:00pm: Cassave hammers and pushes the pace at every opportunity.

I am more wiped out than after last week's simi ride. The weather was amazing... just perfect. And the scenery makes for an outstanding ride, once you get out of the valley.

Shprung 11-10-07 05:03 PM

I ended with 100+ miles today; was at home at 2:30PM.
I ended riding alone for like 50 miles (at least I had my iPhone with music...)
lots of riders took left on Spunky Canyon. I & Stan kept goin up Bouqest Canyon. Stan is stronger than me on the hills with his 100+ cadance but when we start going down on San Francisquito (and we didn't see anyone at the 2rd rest stop area so we just kept on going) I somehow move faster than him and didn't see him at all?
I hope Stan is ok because I actually got worried (hope it just a flat? or cramp?)
I stop for like 20 minutes and waited in the 3rd stop (Carl`s near Sierra) but no one came.
I assume the fast group (i.e Vance, Cassave, Keith, etc.) didn't even stop?!
Over all - good ride, and a good Century. I do have few photos from the start and rest-stop 1 but from that point I was more or less alone...

VanceMac 11-10-07 05:08 PM

Hey Shai. We turned up into Green Valley a mile or two to take a break at the Green Valley Market. By the time we left there, you guys had passed through, and we caught up to Stan shortly after that. So no worries, he's safe and sound.

mkadam68 11-10-07 07:36 PM

Glad you all had fun. I stayed home and rode out to Piru and back. Proly about 65-ish miles. Hard pace, too. Legs still a bit sore. If I had gone, I could've kept Shai company (maybe).

Monday ride: the regular monday ride start I mention above is cancelled. Everyone is going to CSUN at 8am.

mkadam68 11-11-07 12:01 AM

What's the plan as far as route goes on Mon then?

Not sure. From the buzz today, I suspect it will be large enough turnout that there will be at least a couple options.

urbanknight 11-11-07 12:46 AM

I will be there Monday for sure. Heck, I can just pick up the dog after the ride that way (he spends the weekends with the in-laws in North Hills).

It was a great ride today. Sorry to say I was the slowest one in my group, but that will change soon. Glad to see Ovo could come out for the first 8 miles  It was nice meeting the whole gang. I scared someone when I ended up at the front of an impromptu paceline. Shortly after I started my pull, the road turned upward and I was panicking thinking that I was slowing everyone else down. He thought I was looking at my bike for a mechanical. Either way, my pull was short but sweet. I gotta break that habit of looking at my computer every 5 seconds when I'm up front or on my own. I used to do that on my track bike... when it had no computer!!!

See you guys Monday. I'll be recovering tomorrow.

How is that road up to the lake? I know they have repaved some of the worst pieces but some stretches were still in horrible shape the last time I went there.

mkadam68 11-11-07 07:33 AM

Oh...sorry, we didn't go up to the lake, just the stop point (AM/PM gas) on the corner of Torrey Rd. regroup and hammer back up to Santa Clarita for 10-15 miles :D
