Paul, the TDF is a tough century, but you could always turn back at any point since it is an out and back. It won't be as cold as the ride we did in Oct., although some people are freaking out over the weather.
I had a crash on the mtb on Oct. 20th where I fell off a cliff. Screwed up my back and shoulder, so my mileage is down some, but I'm gonna try. Wow, sorry about your back. Look forward to hearing the long version on the next ride. |
While it can/should be posted in the Tdf Reports topic, I thought to place the SFVBC photos here because we talked about it alot in the 'SFVBC topic' & the photos includes SFVBC members.

|
Where did Jim and Vance go? Did you drop 'em.. or did you just roll them for their wallets and leave them in the forest? :p |

:p We were ahead of them. Vance was kicking tail with Keith at the front. The picture is of the smart group that took their time, rode in a group, and enjoyed themselves. At the turnaround point, Steve was coming into the rest stop as I was leaving. Since that never happens, I thought something happened, like a mechanical or something. He explained that he made a stop. The world was now back in order. |

since you live is pasadena and are thinking about racing why not do montrose and save yourself all the wasted time of driving?
It would be nice to meet Jeff if he makes it. I'm actually considering riding from my house and breaking off when they reach the Rose Bowl. At first, I thought why would I want to start a ride at 6am, then I realized I ride at 5:45 every Tue and Thu to commute anyway. |

When I got back, the big group was just rolling in. Stayed with them for the duration and had a blast. Failed miserably at my KOM duties but Keith and Vance hammered everyone. |

I still feel that I'm out of shape and would get dropped on the Montrose ride, and I don't know the area well enough to get back easily. But I plan on joining it soon.

if you guys are worried about getting dropped there is the early ride that leave trader joes at 8:00am and rides a double paceline most of the way. the pace is pretty mellow and the group stays together. it used to be that they did the long route but now it seems that some go long and some go short. it's a great way to learn the route and you can learn a few shortcuts for when you join the regular ride.
|
That sounds worthwhile. Do you do the Montrose ride every week?
|
pretty often. i usually ride from home and do the short ride after finishing in sierra madre ride back to the rose bowl where one of my teammates parks and gives me a ride home
|
Cool, I'll have to try that some time soon. What team do you ride for? PAA?
|
paa, haa haa those bunch of *******, j/k
i ride for a small team of mostly masters racers, anvil cases cycling. |

So, if you want to be captured and posted with your latest winter gear photo, do the route with me. |
I'll see you there, Shai.
|
Ooooh, I'll be in a picture?! For some reason, I don't show up in many pictures taken at any group outings. Thanks for reminding me, though, to check the weather to see how much "winter gear" I have to take along. Too bad my long finger gloves dies yesterday, but it doesn't look like it will be THAT cold.
|
Update, weather.com says it is expected to rain in Northridge around noon, but Pasadena around 9am, yet not at all in Sun Valley.
weatherunderground.com says slight chance of showers all day in Northridge, and a (not slight) chance in Sun Valley and Pasadena. Either way, it looks like there might be "few showers" in the middle of our ride. |

Nice ride today, and a decent turnout despite the threatening clouds. I think there were 20+ people going to the Rose Bowl. I want to see pics, Shprung!
