Little Sycamore is less than 1/2 mile west of the stop sign at Mulholland and Decker.

I should add that I do not know where the "Commons" is so I really didn't answer your question. But I was trying to give you an idea where Sycamore is

My best guess is about 16 miles, maybe a touch less.

Thanks guys, I was just trying to figure out if I should ride from home to the Commons or drive my car.
By the way the Commons is the big shopping center in Calabasas, often we meet there.

Oh, I know the Commons. I ride by it a lot.

OK, I recommend leaving the car at home and just ride there. Just so you know, I always recommend leaving the car at home so don't give my advice too much credence.

Did you talk to Deb? Is this where they are meeting?

Cassave 02-01-07 03:19 PM

Is this ride from the commons open to anybody?
If so what time on Saturday will it leave?

I could use a hilly ride.

Cassave, there may be 2 rides from the Commons, not sure of the details of either, yet. I'll post here when I find out. You could P.M. vertical bob about his start time.

I want to say 25 miles to where Little Syc. leaves Mulholland. Its about another 6 to the top of Yerba where I usually turn around and go back down to Mulholland down to PCH. Yerba is such a rough road. It's about 3700 ft to the top of Sycamore from the Commons that much I'm sure of. Back up on Encinal and Mulholland back. It's a 70+ mile, 8000+ ride depending on if you do Stunt on the way back. I think everyone is starting a 8:30 I'll probably start early and ride around a little before returning to the Commons. The Southeast end of the Parking lot.

big john 02-01-07 09:01 PM

It looks like 8:00 for at least 2 different routes. Cassave, if you want to come along, you're certainly welcome, and you could always add to it if it's not enough.

I seem to remember you talking about a store/restaurant off of mulholland at the bottom of Rock Store, can you tell me the name and exactly where it is at?

Pardon me for jumping in,,,it is on Sierra Creek Road, just east of the Rock Store. Turn north on Sierra Creek Road and it will be on the right hand side at Kanan.

btw, the turkey Reuben is delicious.

valleygirl 02-02-07 11:04 AM

Sounds like a good route VB, I'll be there at 8:00.

What a great day for a ride! 9 of us met at the Commons, 4 men and 5 women,(great day), and took Mulholland to the top of Little Sycamore. Vicki had not been riding in a month so she and 2 others bailed before Little Sycamore, but the rest of us came back to Mulholland and descended to PCH, took Encinal back to Muholland and back to the start. We did stop at the Sierra Creek Store for a snack and to tell some stories. Great group, casual pace for about 75 miles and 8000 feet, except for Cassave, who needed a little more and climbed Stunt before finishing.

VanceMac 02-04-07 10:40 AM

I'll bet it was gorgeous in the Santa Monicas yesterday, John. And with 5 women... even more gorgeous.

Stan was talking about his Sunday rides with Vertcial Bob -- maybe we could get a nice Sunday group ride going one of these weekends? Some week where we aren't all burned out from Saturday's ride, and need something more than the CSUN recovery ride. Just a thought.

big john 02-04-07 04:10 PM

Vance, today I went mountain biking with 2 women. That may be a Sunday option for a while, and a tough one to beat, at that.

I remember that ride from last year (or similar). I know you and your harem had a blast. ;) Next time, post pics! :D

I'd have to bring a camera to post pics. I think Cathy has some, maybe Vance will help her post them. Did you know Cathy took the pic of Vertical Bob that's on his Christmas card?

Yes, I did. I complimented him on the pic that's on that card and he told me she took the pic. I also just had lunch with him (he got me looking like some sad sack...I'm simply wiped out today after yesterday!) and he talked all about the ride you guys did yesterday. *sigh* If only I could split into two and go on multiple rides! :p :D

It was gorgeous and indeed we had a nicely paced ride. Good idea about Sunday rides from the Commons as an alternative to the bagel expeditions from CSUN. Today the route sheet had an errata and we all got lost looking for the Starbucks in Sylmar.
