No, it's a birthday ride for a friend starting at CSUN at 8:00, like most of our rides do. In the SFVBC, you can pick your own b'day route. Join us anytime, it's free, fun and usually fast with the group I chase.

I think you'd enjoy it, we have a good group with some BFers, too. You could even ride there from home. No long drive, no train, home from a century by 4:00 without a super early start. Did I mention the women?

Cathy was returning from sickness and had practiced her snot-rocket technique before joining us. She decided to stick with Kleenex for the ride. I don't think you've met Carrie, ex-runner and super fit and about 30, she'll only get better.
Oops, I remembered you're doing another train ride next week.

So, you've added a new woman to the harem have you? And a 30 year-old super fit one at that! ;) Well, yes, I do have that little train ride that YOU and the gals should join on. It's going to be mostly flat (there is that little hill in SD called Torrey Pines, but other than that...). I'm glad to hear Deb was out riding. Yeah, even hearing that she was tired...:( She must have gone down pretty hard. I sure hope she gets better soon. Oh, and remind Cathy that the "art is in the blow." Kleenexs are for sissies. :p :D

Yes, Joel. John's "women" are all very impressive. Gorgeous, fun company AND strong riders. He's got it made. :D

Um...excuse me. What am I, chopped liver? He has ME riding to that train in SD. I realize I'm but one and I'm slow on the hills, but I'm not THAT shabby. :p :D

We're doing a birthday century for R.J. The new woman is more in his harem, but we do all mix it up out on the road!
I told Deb you said hi, she said hi back at you. She is skiing this week, but I'm sure next time I see her, she'll be back to dropping me on the first hill. It was nice being able to ride with her Saturday, it made me feel stronger when it was just her slowing down.
You're right, I'm very lucky to have such good riding friends, and even luckier that some of them are women. You are always welcome to join us, and we rarely drive anywhere.

Just aim it away from me (meaning me, not M.E.)

Usually I'm pretty good about aim , but count yourself lucky you weren't on the ride last Saturday.
Snot Rocketry was a flinging. I'll admit to being a Sissy. I use Kleenex and I'm proud of it.

Cassave 01-22-07 03:03 PM

Well, we will all have another chance on R.J's century. It's supposed to be a little chilly so the launch schedule will be full I'm sure.

What century are you doing John? Anything up?

The route is chosen by R.J., it's his birthday. CSUN to Simi, T.O. to Hidden Valley to Westlake, back to Cornell to Muholland to Las Virgines to PCH to Santa Monica to Sepulveda. Not a route I would choose, but it's about the people, not the roads.

Hey SVC folks,

I was doing my lunch time from work ride, a 14 mile loop in the West Valley Monday when I caught up to another cyclist on Fallbrook. He told me he was just returning from the regular ride to Moorpark with some SVC buds, said his name was Glenn. We rode together for a mile or so until I turned towards Valley Circle.
Had a fine conversation, seemed like a nice guy.

Anyone know him?

Sheldon

Hi Sheldon. I'm guessing Glenn from Woodland Hills... stocky guy? Very sociable and jovial? Some of the others will know him a lot better than I do, as he's been with the club a long time. He comes out to our coffee break stops on the Monday and Wednesday rides, even if he isn't riding, just to hang. Good guy. They're all good guys/gals. I hear Glenn is quite a good bike mechanic, too.

big john 01-24-07 07:39 AM

I know 2 Glenns it could have been. What was he riding? Fit in his 70s? Stocky in his 50s? They both have multiple bikes.

Fit and 70's for sure. Said he had worked at Rocketdyne at one time. Told me he almost always does the Monday ride.

That would be The General. I went on so many rides where he was the leader. I learned a lot from him, what a great guy. If you see him again, tell him I said hi.

I just now saw this. Just so you know, Cathy - I have NEVER proclaimed to being ladylike on a bike But you, on the other hand, ARE ladylike. You also can smoke my sorry butt up any hill. Nope. No way am I teaching you the art of snotrocketry...UNLESS it will slow you down on the hills so I can stay up with you? Now, that, I didn't think of. ;):D

I seem to remember that this forum has a no-sandbagging rule in effect as of 1/1/07.
Note violation of rule in quote above. Rip her legs off Cathy.

VanceMac 01-26-07 01:06 PM

Hope to see everyone on RJ's birtday ride/century. Sounds like it's going to be quite a large and socialable group, at least for the first half. If anyone missed the "Van Nuys to SD" thread, that ride was postponed, and some of those participants are joining us -- M.E. and Magicant for sure, and I think herb? awiner? and fixer?

Cheers.

Sandbagging?? Please. Have you ridden with the woman? ;)

roadfix 01-26-07 01:12 PM

Yes, I'm going. Looking forward to riding with all of you tomorrow! :)
