Talked to my sister in Highlands and they weathered the storm in pretty good shape didn't rip off their roof. Lots of debris on the ground and she told me the wind stripped every leaf from her Magnolia tree. My brother in law was trying to clean up around the house, branches and limbs everywhere and of course no power or phone but she called me on her cell and as odd as it seems the reception was better than I get around here.

Yeah, we have no power in our neighborhood, but my parents do, so needless to say, we're having dinner over here. :-)
We did realize something scary though. The lady next door had an aluminum patio cover that was demolished. Last night we noticed an 8ft piece of gutter on the other side of our house. How the gutter got all the way over our house without hitting the roof or any windows, I'll never know.

I watched the storm from the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The winds and rain were beyond description. It's going to be hot and power is going to be at least a week away....Around 2:30 this afternoon I was sitting in a parking lot on OST and saw two cyclists pedal past. Maybe things will get back to normal sooner than I thought.

Same here, just got power back about an hour ago but that's not bad considering there are more than a mil without it right now. We didn't do too bad here, just a very damaged and mangled tree and a WHOLE LOT of mess to clean up, but all in all, we were very lucky. Can't say so much for our friends farther south I'm afraid. Son and I used the bikes today to wander around the neighborhood a little. Lots of debris in the roads so we didn't venture too far, tons of glass as it seems many of the street lights broke or exploded.

We're looking forward to a real ride tomorrow!

Glad to hear others are back online or at least checking in.

Just got the phone line back, maybe it just got really wet? We're on battery power for the computer, so I will likely be offline for a while. No power, and maybe not for a couple of weeks they said. No house damage, but the neighbors crepe myrtle(40 foot tall?) fell on my truck. It hit a 6ft fence first, so no real damage, just the upper thin branches. Two large oak tree limbs down in the front yard, and minor flooding. We lost the power and tv about 3 am. We're okay, just checking in.,,,,Miguel

Glad to see some you south east Texans checking in. Ironically, we go little rain out of Ike in Richardson/Plano area. The heaviest rain we got was last night around 8 as the last bands on the west side of storm swept through.

I saw these people on the news today riding bikes through water that was about 2/3 the way up the tires. Now I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that's not good for the drivetrain.

So far we have only jumped about .35 in Dallas. We can only hope that's all it does.

The Woodlands: No power, few gas staions up and running. We lost about 16 trees at our home. Three huge hardwoods and the rest pines. Most just snapped when the hardwoods came down. Roof damage and the like. Both my wife and I are back at work, we had to leave our three sons at home. Gas will become a big issue soon if they don't get staions back up and running.

We wil make do and no complaints.

Stay stong everyone.

My complex in Montrose everthing is back online other than cable. I stayed with my sister in Bellaire and we lost power for about 12hrs and phone was in and out since. Funny part is I spent my entire time since the hurricane transporting clothes and other goodies and looking for and food via bike and just finished returning everything and exploring the aftermath. Refuse to let my sister waste her gas when I got a perfectly good set legs and a bike. Hope my other texans are coping well with this.

Bikes: many bikes

Packed up the family and left to in-laws out in Lockhart on Thursday. Dealing with a sick 6month old, so we have to wait til the lights get turned back on. Neighbors that stuck around say there a bunch of oak trees that are locking the roads.

Good news, my lbs only lost the sign (circa 1985) at the road.

Glad to hear that utilities are starting to come back online for ya'll down south. Stay safe and hopefully this cooler weather we're having up here will make it down to ya'll and make things more comfortable w/o power.

The Woodlands:

Waited 3:45 to get gas this morning. Each person was only allowed to get $50.00 So I filled up my Mini Cooper and two gas cans.

Still no power.

Not complaining, just an update.

Heard from my dad in Clute. No damage to the house, power is off, but water is on, so they're in pretty good shape.

Reporting in: Power still out in my part of Bellaire. Thank the Lord for the cooler weather! My parents, in Highlands, have power restored, but until gasoline is more readily available, I will stay in Bellaire to be closer to work. Bellaire does still have water and natural gas, so sanitation is not an issue. I am working 12 hours on, twelve off, with no days off for a while, patrolling the streets, looking for looters and pillagers. I do not work for Bellaire PD, but for a larger neighboring PD, which is lucky for me, as the Bellaire police have to stay in Bellaire 24/7, though only on patrol for 12-hour shifts; I go home between my 12-hour shifts. Crime has actually been very light. The mentally ill have been giving us fits, as they seem unable to cope well, and the local mental health lock-up is full, so there is not much we can do with them. The local county hospitals are full, so if you don't have health insurance, stay well!

FWIW, regarding mobile phones and devices, Verizon and AT&T customers seem happy, whereas Sprint and T-mobile have spotty reception. Keep that in mind when shopping for mobile service providers. My family's Verizon phones and devices experienced no loss of reception; my Sprint phones have had spotty reception, though mostly still able to send/receive. As I type this, I am on laptop, with a Verizon Pantech USB-plug device, using vehicle power with an inverter.

Enough for now; much to do; y'all stay safe!

The company my wife works for has an office in Houston on Post Oak at 610/59 area. They came through unscathed basically. Power and phone are on at the office, but the computer system took a hit. Server will not boot or somesuch.

They however will not reopen until next week so that their employees can deal with what needs to be dealt with and to conserve gasoline.

Glad to hear a bit of normalcy is returning.

On a side note, more help is on the way. I entered the freeway this afternoon next to a convey of Xcel Energy trucks, probably 30 or so boom trucks and a few Suburbans, all with Minnesota plates. It is amazing how much man power is being shifted to Texas for this.
