I just got back from my first tour, unfortunately it was cut short because a car hit me, ruining my Kona Sutra 2015, so now I'm after a new bike, so I can finish my trip after I recovery in 12 months time, I have been also looking at lighter and faster. Above are links to 3 bikes that I am considering the gearing on them is a little high but I travel with only about 6kg of gear, and I'm quite strong bike with rack mounts on the rear and able to take upto 32c tires, as well as disc . What did you like or dislike about your Kona Sutra? Why aren't you looking for another?

Are you actually going off road? Gravel?

Of the cyclocross bikes, the Specialized Tricross would also be similar.

There are a few CF Cyclocross bikes, but they tend to be expensive. Nashbar does sell a CF Cyclocross frame for $700. What can be recovered from your old bike? For $500 to $1000 more, you could build up a very nice bike.

There are a few Titanium Cross frames for around $1000.... Might be worth considering building up. There is another thread about hunting for a good Titanium Cyclocross frame.

Anyway, there are a lot of options.

The Gaint has a triple the other two have compacts. My Konan was fine it was just a tad on the heavy side for my everyday commuting and group rides. I dearly ride on gravel if I do I normally get off and walk the bike

GT Grade Alloy 105 is my choice for light touring. It has replaced my Bianchi Volpe as my favourite all around bike. The dropouts are tapped, but you'll need to replace the seat post clamp with a seatpost clamp with rack mount. Easily done. It doesn't have provision for a front rack, but you said " but I travel with only about 6kg."

I never considered building my own bike before, but since you bring up the frames, assuming the guy that hit me his insurance company don't need to see a receipt for a whole bike I might built it myself. I wounded how much weight I could put into the lower mounts of the ICAN frame
