. An electromagnetic pulse can be as common as lightning...yes, it's an EMP...or as uncommon as a thermonuclear explosion (a NEMP), especially one that is transatmosphere. That's the one that the preppers fear. A thermonuclear EMP can fry some electronics but not all. Our military has known and has planned for this kind of NEMP for decades.With the exception of China and Russia, none of the other bogey men listed above can launch a transatmosphere NEMP. They don't have the rocket technology capable of that kind of launch.
