went something like---and this is why on my heavier touring bike, I have a nice stupid low gear of 16.7
Used to think this was crazy, but having done trips in parts of the world , like in the UK, where they will sometimes throw out a 20, 25% grade at you, and the fact that Ive carried more crap than usual, I really like having this low gear.
Even if I don't use it that often, I'm sure as hell glad its there sometimes. If I dont need it, thats fine, I just dont shift into it, or shift up , no downside to having it really, not for touring anyway.
Mountain bike triple, 44/32/22 and 11-34. Not ideal for light touring or unloaded riding, but really, for most touring I do, it works quite well.

Bikes: nothing to brag about
I wish there were more places in the world like this one:

I've been missing some great pics here lately. 🙂
Imaginos, I'm jealous, always wanted to see more of Alaska. 😉 I've been to Dutch Harbor & Unalaska, in the process of commercial fishing, but that's not nearly enough. 🤔
I met an Inuit lady in Seattle, who told me about her people picking blackberries right alongside the bears. 😲 At first, I thought she was pulling my leg, but as I got to know her, I really don't think so. Some people are just too honest, and don't have leg-pulling in them. 🙂

I’ve lived in Alaska for over 50 years since I was 12. I’ve never taken it for granted and have never had the desire to live anywhere else. I went to HS in Anchorage and Kodiak, went to tech school in Seward, lived in Yakutat,Ketchikan,Kenai. Spent twelve years in logging camps on Afognak Island also. Had a 35 year career in logging including the last 18 years on Prince of Wales where I plan to spend the rest of my days…..riding my bike.
After this last summer in California, I'm pretty sure I'll be heading North again soon, but not sure how far North. 🤔
Enjoy your retirement, and post lots of pics here. 👍

I finally got out again after staying home fpr two or so years due to recent worldwide events. Just a short 4 1/2 day trip to an 85km cycle trail formed from old bush tram lines and roads. It's spring here right now, the place is slowly coming back to life...

Thanks! It's the first time I've been far with these handlebars. The way the bike is set up there's actually really only one hand position, but it's a very good position, so was never an issue...
Heh, does that include my finger being in the frame top right. You need to be careful with the ultra wide on a phone..
