OK, so I bought a budget Delta front rack for my budget Trek 620 tourer and it doesn't fit. The distance from my midfork brazeon to the dropout screw hole is between 16.5 and 17cm c-c. The Delta seems to need a good 19cm to fit. It comes with a clamp for forks w/o braze-ons but that seems like an unnecessary kludge. Obviously, these things are far less standardized than they probably should be and "fits any fork" is a mild exaggeration.

So, are there true multiple standards for these things? And what affordable rack would work with this fork? I know the Tubus Duo is specially made for that size but it's out of my price range. I've never used the Jandd rack, but I worked at a shop that sold them and the appear to be very sturdy and well designed. I've liked every Jandd product I've owned. That rack is one of my primary choices for the trek 620 I'm building up. If budget allows, I would like a set of the Surly nice racks, although they are way too expensive. I have mounted quite a few Jandd rear racks and noticed they are very versitile in their mounting options. I'd find a shop that carries them, bring the bike in, and take a look.

unfortunately both racks are a compromise, The delta gives you horizontal adjustment to level the rack and the jandd gives you verticle adjusment for different mounting dimensions. I helped someone with this problem on a Delta front loader rack last year by having them make a couple of aluminum tabs to reach down to the midfork braze on.
They went on tour with it and apparently had no problems

Your design didn't seem as stable to me, unless I visualized it incorrectly.
