Tarwheel,

does your front fork and seat-stay bridge have holes drilled for breaks? Just curious.

Bikes: Coppi racer, Old school BMX, some random a fixed wheel convertion

Three options

1. HTFU and use canti brakes. They are used for a reason.

2. HTFU and buy the frame and grind off the cable and canti bits, then get it powder coated.

3. HTFU and except what you want is not the OTP world tour, understand why they can offer it cheaper as an OTP, and that you'll have pay more for it.

I sorta doubt that hydrogen embrittlement is a big issue on a touring bike. But it is over-rated for rust prevention. Powder coat or good paint will do you more good.

I have considered parkerizing but don't know if that's appropriate on something the size of a frame.

I've sold my Mercian on I'm afraid but the wbsite give you all the info. Click on the Vincitori and then the three views.

Of course it's all interesting. Just curious, what is the negative about canti brakes? I could see you not spending extra for them. But, if they come free, and if they stop a loaded bike better, why cut them off?

I'm not into the chrome for protection, I just love the look. What is parkerizing?

canti brakes

I don't understand the issue with canti brakes either. The BJ World Tour was my first bike with canti brakes and I love them. They have more stopping power than calipers and much more clearance for fenders and wider tires.

Just like chewybrain I'm going for a look. I don't like the look of cantis... besides dia-compe center-pulls work just as well... So I'm trying to see what I can get before I give in.

I'm still trying to imaging my life with cantis...

Ok so. I'm going with the Audax End-End. It's basically 90% the bike I want. I just sold my '03 Bianchi Pista, since I don't commute anymore and racing it seems to be a pipe dream now that I have a new daughter...

So really the only things I don't love about the A:E-E are the head-tube derailleur cable stops and the rear break stops on the top-tube. I really prefer down-tube bosses and the 3-guides-on-top style cable routing... but I can save that for when I order a Mercian in a few years

But really for $650 shipped you can beat it!
