Bikes: Trek 830 Mountain Track Drop bar conversion

I'll take the LHT off your hands for you, especially if it's a 56 cm frame w/ 700 wheels. I won't even be picky about the color!

I always want to sell my folder. I don't like the ride BUT every so often I need a folder. I was only able to join in the bike to work festivities last Friday because I ad a folder that my train allows on board. So I guess I'm stuck with it. Seldom used but does fill an niche. If downsizing is due to space then you should keep the folder as it can fit anywhere.

Bikes: Serial bike flipper

Based on your descriptions, I would say keep the LHT and lose the Thorn. In these types of decisions, I find that emotions usually rule logic. Yes, a bike may check several boxes or be really great for something, but if you haven't warmed up to it, forget about it.

Looks like I'm a little late to the party.
I think you have a big overlap with the LHT and the Thorn. If it were me, I'd keep the Thorn because it's more versatile and I like 26" wheels for availability for touring in a remote area (outside of Europe and North America). However, if you vastly prefer the ride quality of 700c over 26", and since you have a NWT for weekend trips, maybe the S&S couplers aren't that important, and you could sell the Thorn.
I've never ridden a Pugsley nor a Dummy, so I have no comment there.
However I do have a NWT, and I can't understand why everyone does not own one of these. To me there's something special about having a bike that fits in a suitcase and you can take anywhere, yet also is so much fun to ride.
Why do you not list your Tikit? Do you love that bike so much that you wouldn't consider selling it? Looking at the videos of the new BF folding stem, it looks like your NWT with one could fold pretty fast and easy as well.

By the time this thread is over, I suspect that every bike will be voted off the island at least twice.

FWIW:
• The Pugsley has the most unique functionality, and you're using it a lot, so keep it.
• The LHT, Bike Friday and Thorn are redundant. Pick one, preferably the most versatile of the 3.
• You can easily replace the functionality of the Big Dummy with a collapsible trailer at a fraction of the price.

Really? In that case it's my kind of tragedy... I own less stuff than most people I know...the thing is pretty much all my stuff is sports gear...which I do use a lot...the reason I'm not touring as much or for as long as I had once hoped is because other interests like kiteboarding, sea kayaking, etc... are taking up a lot of my big chunks of holiday time. Spending two months in Mexico last winter camped on a beach kiteboarding didn't feel tragic at the time...

I'm not slaving away at a desk 80hrs a week to pay for my bike habit...I just don't spend my money on the stuff a lot of folks do...like furniture, TVs, etc..I've got different priorities.

Thanks folks....I'm selling the Thorn so it can find a home under some cycle-pathic vagabond on a dusty road to everywhere...

My GF wants to do some touring this summer [just 2-3 day stuff] and I'll ride the LHT and Bike Friday so I can figure out which one to sell in next year. She's been grumbling about getting a touring bike and likes the Bike Fridays because she drives a Mini and can fit one inside - plus she's British so I think she has a cultural predisposition to funny small wheel bikes... If she goes that route than I'll probably keep my bike Friday so we can be odd balls together...

I know some of you don't get the point of an odd ball bike like the Pugsley...I didn't either until I owned one and realized it could do a lot more than I had first thought.

Now that the good weather is upon us here in the Great White North I hope many of you will find yourselves out on the road biking it up. It's always fun to read about other folks' experiences on Bike Forums. I'll be riding a bunch on Vancouver Island this summer and will post tour reports and photos when I do.

May as well go all the way then, and get the REAL British small wheeled funny lookin bike
You might even get enough out of that Thorn to do it without having to dip into your bank account!

Firstly, i'm joking.. but only sort of! I do know a few of guys with a "bicycle" problem. It really can get out of control. Of course collecting bicycles isn't like collecting cars or even motorcycles, but it does put a dent in the savings account. (not that i'm interested in prying into your finances)

Nice pictures from Mexico! Have you kayaked around Canada at all? That is another fun "touring" hobby.

Bikes: 1940s Fothergill, 1959 Allegro Special, 1963? Claud Butler Olympic Sprint, Lambert 'Clubman', 1974 Fuji "the Ace", 1976 Holdsworth 650b conversion rando bike, 1983 Trek 720 tourer, 1984 Counterpoint Opus II, 1993 Basso Gap, 2010 Downtube 8h, and...

I am in no position to counsel anyone on getting rid of bikes, since I am very bad at it myself. But the last two I'd sell would be the Friday and the Dummy, because there is the least overlap in them, as far as utility goes; the other two seem to me to relatively redundant. Furthermore, you could fold up the Friday and load it on the Dummy and make your escape... can't do that with the others!

I would probably consider the pugsley + either the nomad or the LHT the two most indespensible ones.

Did you consider mixing and matching the thorn & LHT parts so as to keep the thorn frame since it has the couplers, but building it up less heavy duty with some parts from the LHT?

Friends don't let friends ride Bromptons... My GF and I have spent a long weekend on some Bromptons we borrowed and neither of us have any desire to repeat the experience. Bike Fridays are superior in every way...except they don't fold quite as small...not a factor for us...

We'll stick with good old made in the USA steel Bike Friday folders...

Ahhh....sorry...the lack of emoticons didn't convey humour. My mistake!

I'm going to kayak around Vancouver Island, but previously most of my sea kayaking has been in the Sea of Cortez, Baja Mexico. Definitely another great touring hobby...

Interestingly one tour idea I have for this summer involves something quite similar...great minds!...

The Thorn is a Rohloff specific frame with some design specific parts like the rear rack...there isn't much I could swap between the running 700c wheel drop bar derailleur drivetrain and the Thorn 26" wheel MTB bar Rohloff drivetrain.

Drop Bars on the Thorn. Ditch the LHT.

Keep the Friday it folds fast and can fit many people sizes. Keep the big dummy. (Kids?)

Bikes: '06 Giant TCR2

I'd sell the Thorn Nomad, the first bike looks like it could be used for that, and if you needed to do more, you have the Big Dummy.

Make an honest list of the trips you are going to take in the next 2 years. Keep the bikes for those trips (including around home) and sell the rest. It's nice to dream of what we would keep, but only you can say what you will use.

Darn nice stable BTW.

I sold the Thorn and still have the rest. I'm kind of stuck now as I like the rest of these bikes a lot. Since that post I have moved from a 2brdm downtown apartment to a house with a garage so my storage problems aren't as great.

I love the Big Dummy and use it a lot for cargo missions. Plus I think my current situation demands that I carry all the gear for my GF and I on tour to balance out our speeds which is a mission ideally suited to the Big Dummy.

I love the Bike Friday New World Tourist and it's unique with small wheels and foldability so I am hesitant to sell it.

I love my LHT although it is the bike I could sell and buy again with minimal hassles. It doesn't do anything I can't do with the two bikes above so in theory this should be the next to go. However, in practice I just can't get motivated to sell it.

I have considered selling my Pugsley since I live in a no snow zone now it's mostly a beach machine.

I have also considered selling my fixed gear since it is strictly a fun machine and doesn't fill any vital niche.

At the moment I can store all these bikes, but there is no room for anything new so if I want to build up a new bike in 2011 it will require a sale.

You are enabling me

I am up to 12 and the missus is hating it! But I just love them too much...even my old odd ball bikes. Oh well, just means having to buy more flowers and chocolate to keep everybody happy

Remind her she'd hate it more if you weighed twice as much and were a couch a potato.
