any 700c tire advice for a LHT????

Hey everyone,

The tires on my LHT have a flat spot on the crown of each tires(bought the bike used) and I would like to replace the tires. I'm not going to be doing any loaded touring in the foreseeable future but still plan on using the LHT for day rides. Currently running 700x32 tires and am thinking that going to a 700x28 would be a wise move. Next month I have a 150mile two day ride and am wanting to get a nice set of tires that will be fairly puncture resistant yet low rolling resistance. I'm not saying price isn't a concern but looking for a decent set of tires. Any info/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Panaracer T-Serv, decent puncture resistance in a nice riding light tire. Continental ultra gatorskin

I would not go down to a 700x28. These tires usually measure from 26 to 27mm wide. I suggest the Vittoria Randonneur Hyper, aka Voyager Hyper in a 700x32. These are very smooth riding have flat protection and travel with very low rolling resistance. This is a faster and better riding tire than a 700x28 Gatorskin.

I've never ridden the Gatorskins so I can't compare but I agree 100% on the Vittoria Randonneur Hypers (Voyayer, now). I'm running the 32's and they are fantastic. Light, fast, pretty comfortable, no flats in several hundred miles and they corner really well. Highly recommended. I've also heard that other Vittoria tires in the same line aren't nearly as nice so if you are interested, be sure they are the Hypers.

Continental Travel Contact, the 700c is a 37 width.. I've used their 26" version..

A slick center, row of edge knobs, for when off pavement.

they get the Gatorskin sidewall treatment..

long wearing..

I like Conti Sport Contact in 700x37c and Vittoria Randonneur Hyper in 700x38c. It may help that I am a Clyde.

I have been running two pair of Vittoria Randonneur Pros, 35 mm on my Surly Steamroller and 40 mm on a Surly Karate Monkey. I have put approximately 3,000 miles on these tires and have yet to experience a flat. I am a pretty careful rider and don't get many flats, but I've never had a run like this. These are mostly commuter miles and I find the ride comfortable and stable, even on our icy winter roads.
