Tire confusion

Is a 700c tire the same as a 28in tire?

Thanks

Thanks for the site, however after more than 30min of looking I still can't find an answer to my question.

The short answer is "Probably yes." German bike part companies (for some reason even though they use the metric system) will call a 700c tire a 28 inch tire.

To make matters more confusing, a 29" tire goes on the same diameter wheel as a 28" tire. They're both for 700c wheels with a 622mm bead seat diameter.

ripley called: he said, "believe it or not a 27" tire needs a larger rim than a 28" or 29" tire".

stick to ISO standardized sizes. For 700c you need ISO sizes that begin with 622. So 622-40 would be a 700cx40 tires.
At the risk of sounding nit-picky, the width goes first in ISO: 40-622.

622 is comforting. So is 559. Just sayin'. I'm glad somebody thought of that one.

Got my tires in last night. I ordered schwalbe plus tour in 28 x 1.75 which had the 622-47 size. (same as the 700c x 45 , except just a shade wider)

Now if I can just find some tubes that big
