Never missed a bucket in camp. The closest things was having a huge, collapsible bladder during our 13 person x-country tour, and even that wasn't regularly useful.

The quotes got messed up. I would never do that. That is the OP's idea.

However, and speaking from experience, the weight doesn't have to be at the level of low riders to produce good handling. As mentioned, I have only toured with mid-level pannier mounts. No handling problems whatsoever. In fact, the famed Robert Beckman, who made my first racks and panniers, was only making mid to high level mounting racks when I bought mine. But I do thing the bucket idea could be unsound.

The Racktime Topit is available at places like xxcycle, niagaracycle, ebikestop etc. It's compatible with front dynamo lights.

I think the Duo is perfectly strong. We've used it on several tours, generally on our Santana triplet, and it's never had a problem with slipping, bending, etc. From posted info, both have the same load rating (33#) and weigh almost the same (11.2 vs 11.5 ounces). See Tubus Racks. For those who don't know the difference between the two models, I've posted pics below.

BUT, as mentioned, it will only work on forks with pass-through mid-fork rack brazeons (one on each side of the fork leg). I got the Tara because my Co-Motion Nor'wester only has the braze-ons on the outside of the fork legs, which is a bummer. If I ever get the bike repainted I'll have them add the extra pass-through braze-ons.

I've used both the old Blackburn design (trapezoid boxes with connecting loop) and the Tubus Tara design. Both of mine are non branded generic taiwanese racks bought off the internet. I prefer the Tubus Tara look. In use they're both fine.

just noticed your pic of rifraf's ergo on his ogre (that's funny)...
but seriously, I just picked up an ergo for the wife's troll and have to mount it the same way... more of a forward position than what the installation diagram shows. I was worried that the more forward position would make it handle poorly. any issues so far with anyone's similar set-up??

I really like the Old Man Mountain Sherpa. Rock solid, not heavy, doesn't rust, has platform and fits any bike. I've used low-riders before and I prefer high-riders and a platform.

Great price, I ordered one of these from Wiggle a week ago , received it in 2-days. I'm on the east coast.

My other Tara was bought used on Ebay for more than this.

Yep, I ended up jumping on it shortly after posting as I figured they might sell out and worst case I could recover the cost on CL if I decide I don't want it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Old Man Mountain racks. They are very durable, reasonable light, and offer about every mounting option that exists. I have used a rear rack on a mountain bike with no eyelets and it worked perfectly. Sorry I don have a photo available. I will be setting up a different bike, beginning in the next few days, and I will absolutely consider OMM for a front rack. Check them out.

Mine : Tubus Ergo , same one as in 25th picture , just Powder-coated Black chromoly, rather than stainless Silver color.

as I said earlier .. Koga of NL, got a batch order integrating a 2nd Kickstand. (now KS+ mount, is also offered as a Bolt on accessory thru Tubus )

> .. and My 30 year old 1 piece 4130 tube Bruce Gordon front lowrider racks, And rear . are still OK ..

The way the mounting will sort out is different , & of course Tubus is sold in more Places ..

I got those direct from BG Cycles . I think thats The way to do That, direct.

Bikes: 1970s Peugeot UO-8, 1980 Peugeot PXN10E "Super Competition", 1985-86? Miyata 610, 2012 Trek 3500 Mtn Bike, late 1800s project build/bike (will it ever get finished?..your guess is as good as mine! HA!),etc...

I'm in the same boat when it comes to what front rack....
however, I can't afford the Tubus $100+ racks, no matter how wonderful they are. Though I'd love to find the Tubus Tara Lowrider Front Rack for under $60 bucks!
Was looking at Blackburn FL-1,..the various offerings from other companies like Axiom, but read a lot of bad reviews on both.
Maybe a Jandd low rack???....

Not to hijack this thread but, I have a Miyata 610 (no midway braze ons on the forks,..),..so I'm a bit limited to some degree.

Blackburn FL1 has worked fine for 30 years .. though I see many people dont get how that U bolt mount is designed to work

and they put it together wrong..

Using a couple P clips instead may be what will please you

(Bene Sugg: Use No Carbon Forks)

That's one thing that occurs to me frequently when reading gear reviews when any sort of mechanics are involved....does tge reviewer know what they're doing? My first inclination is...get something by a company that's been around for years... (ie. Blackburn, Jandd...)

Hint 1: the U is also a stand off spacer.. the 4 nuts and the 2 acorn nuts go on so as 2 nuts push the plasti-dipped plate against the fork blade.

Backing Out the Other 2 nuts clamps the rack rear corner between those 2 nuts and the acorn nuts on the outside ..

Doing that the 2 sides of the rack are parallel to each other , and there is sufficient space for the Bag mount hooks at the top edge, even at the back.

Looks to be out of stock and don't know if it will still be <$60 when it comes back in but keep an eye on Wiggle.

wiggle.com | Tubus Tara Lowrider Front Rack | Pannier Racks

I got my rack from the UK in 4 days and am quite pleased with it.

Edit: it appears to be back in stock at ~$59

I wasn't aware of the pass-through mid fork requirements, which my bike doesn't have. Guess it's going to be the Nova. Thanks for the heads up!

I live in China and bought them off of Taobao, China's version of Ebay. If you live in another country, there are shopping services which offer shipping forwarding on Taobao purchases. Search on Google.
