I am not sure that is accurate. We evolved to eat LOTS of stuff, hence the term "omnivore," and it is a fairly universal trait of mammals to crave fat in their diet, but I do not think these cravings necessarily translate to a need for meat, as you seem to think. BTW, a typical hunter gatherer would supplement a mostly vegetarian diet with a small amount of meat. Study any Stone Age culture, past or present, and you will find this to be true.

Never mind the fact that he's wrong, his post should be removed for textbook "trolling." Moderators?

I've tried to eat all kinds of different diets. I seem to be prone to follow fads that way. I finally realized that it doesn't work for me to be any type of eater. It is almost followed like a religion and I have to control so many things in my life if I get hung up on worrying about too much I blow gaskets.

Better to eat as healthy as I can, what my wife likes to cook than to get all 'weirded out' on some fad that I cannot sustain for any period of time. Just going to my parents or in-laws house, or over to a friends for dinner and you are faced with the dilema of what to do when the offer food doesn't fit your 'religion'.

Moderation in all things.

We do so much outside of what our ancestors did it isn't even funny. My ancestors didn't work behind a computer all day, they didn't eat packaged, processed foods either. Just because something was done before, doesn't mean we have to keep on doin' it.

When I have ever asked a meat eater why he ate meat, I've NEVER heard the ancestoral reply. This thread wasn't a veggie vs. meat thread, there are plenty others of those floating around. You keep copying your ancestors, I'll keep buckin' the system. Peace.

The odd thing is that Eskimos/(old time Eskimos as studied by steffanson) eat mostly meat and they don't seem to suffer from cancer or heart troubles. The theory is also out there that eating fish made our brains evolve to be highly functioning.

Yeah, I have also heard it said that learning to hunt, and the access to animal protein it provided our species, was a turning point as it afforded us the opportunity to maximize our big ol' primate brains. Regardless, we are no longer a Stone Age people, and it always kind of rubs me the wrong way when folks on both sides of the issue try to validate their POV using Cro Magnons as examples, since it is of only limited relevance to the well-fed, Microsoft chimps we have become. At least this isn't the anarchist forum I used to go to that would have all-out flamewars between Straight Edge-Vegans and Anarcho-Primitivist roadkill eaters.

Yeah, there's some people who subscribe to "Weston A. Price" and his high animal fat diet.

I try to just eat fish and eggs as far as meat. Meat to me is something I'd like to eat less of, kind of like candy or chips, but I'm not strict enough. I have done the "raw food" thing before, and lots of raw juicing.
It's a lot of work, and hard to maintain.
Beet and carrot juice...mmmm (I'm serious). Avocados as some mentioned are another favorite.

Cooool....

Too bad they couldn't fight it out for real. It would be one-sided though, the vegans would faint at the sight of blood and the primitivist would be howling over their kills and eat them because stone age people in New Guinea still eat each other!

Veggie for the last 18 years. I love it. I would never go back to eating meat. I read the reasons for eating meat on this forum. None of them apply to me. This was one of the landmark changes in my life.

If any vegetarians feel like it, how about posting a normal list of
what you would consume in a day?

I'm not vegetarian, but a meat-free day for me might be cereal with soymilk, a piece of fruit for a snack, some bean soup/minestrone or a PBJ or some hummus and pita or any kind of leftovers (especially pasta, yum!) or a falafel wrap or a cheese and veggie pizza for lunch, more fruit for a snack, maybe some cottage cheese and crackers or a Clif bar, and some of my favorite meat-free dinners include black beans and rice; garbanzo beans and chard; falafel; lentils and kale; lentils and rice; stir-fried tofu and broccoli; baked tofu and pilaf; maybe meatless sausage in pasta or a veggie burger if I'm really feeling lazy; last night I had eggplant cutlets over penne with plenty of parmesan. Usually I'll also have a big ol' tossed salad with several kinds of greens, cucumber, bell pepper, tomato, cranberries, walnuts and a homemade basalmic/olive oil dressing.

HTH!

I know about the mad cow bans, but which countries ban US beef because of fats, hormones, antibiotics?

EU bans beef that contains: estradiol, testosterone, progesterone, zeranol, trenbolone, melengestrol, clenbuterol, proaine, dexamethasone, triamcinolone-acetonide. All of which are used in US beef production, maybe not all at once on the same cow.
