Identifying a part of the knee
I'm having a little bit of trouble with my left knee, nothing serious but I'd like to take care of it early. Occasionally I'd get a little discomfort on the top part of my left knee, higher up the leg.
When I tried raising my saddle, the discomfort not only moved (front of the leg and below the patella) but increased a bit. So, I lowered it a bit, and still have some mild discomfort.
I'm guessing that it's a minor overuse injury and RICE should take care of it.
However, I have no idea what to call the part of the knee that's feeling the discomfort -- slightly higher up the leg and to the left of the left patella. Any ideas?

Can't tell without palpitating it, but it sounds similar to the vastus lateralis thread just up the page. Which could be a tendon/sheath issue or a slight strain at the tendon entrance, or it could be an ITB issue. Since the discomfort moved to below the kneecap and changed with saddle height, I'd put my money on ITB, see "Yes, another knee pain thread . . ." further down the page.
