Question About the Bike Leg of a Tri
Ok, I apologize for all my manic moments.. but with like 3 days before the Tri im in full fledged freak out mode.
I am lucky enough to live in the city in which this Tri is being held, and I actually drive home from work on the Bike Route. And, there is this very large hill that is part of the route.
It's an out and back so Im going to have to face that hill twice... and I'm freaking out that I wont have it in my legs to push up the hill the 2nd time through
Has a rider ever dismounted and walked the hill? Does this disqualify a rider?
I'm totally freaking out

Don't worry. Take it easy and try to relax. The worse thing that can happen is you have to walk the hill. You won't be disqualified or penalized in any way.
I've seen people walk before. It's not uncommon, especially when the hill is steep.

well since you still have three days to go, you might want to try out at least that hill tomorrow and see what it is like, sometimes hills look worse, or better in cars. also you may not know wind conditions, who knows maybe you have a massive tail wind all the way up the hill. (ok probably not, but it would be nice)

Do try the hill, but NOT the day before the race. Take that day off. Easy spinning and/or swimming only. Run if you must, but only on soft surfaces and only for a bit.
To answer your question: you would not be disqualified. You could push the bike the entire way if you wanted to, although you might not make the bike cut-off.
I have seen people push bikes up hills in a race before so don't worry about it.

Bikes: 2010 58cm Royal Windsor Triathlon bike - it is alright for now but I certainly hope to upgrade in the next few years.
Use "Sport Legs". They are pills that you take to help with the lactic acid build-up during the bike. I always use them and they help tremendously. You take one pill for every 50 lbs of your weight. I weigh 175 so I should take 4...I take 5 though. You have to take them an hour before you need them.
Don'tbe afraid to get out of the seat and climb your way up. I find that getting over some hills faster standing is better than killing myself seated just becasue it is proper triathlon position.
Do what you have to do to get over the hill.

Fred I wish I would have checked back on the thread before my race!! That probably would have helped!
Well, I did finish my first Triathlon!
YAY! I finished in 2:47 so yeah def not nearly as fast as the times everyone else in the Tri threads posted but hey, it was my first one and I finished and I did not need to walk up any hills. Though the 2nd loop up that hill was def Much harder than getting up the hill the first time.
I finsihed though and that is enough satisfaction for me. I have another Tri in August, and now I know what to expect and can improve on my times from there!!
Thanks for all your help everyone!!! These past few weeks counting down I have always been able to come on here and not feel so panicked anymore!
