carrying fountain drinks

Hey everybody,

Sorry I'm completely new to forums. I always find them helpful, but never decided to post anything whenever I have an issue, so bare with me if I'm doing something wrong, or posting in the wrong section.

I've been working as a sandwich delivery guy for a few years now. I Love the job, I ride about 30+ miles in a 5 hour shift, loads of fun. I use a Chrome Metropolis messenger bag, and I've fallen in love with it. For my line of work, where speed is a necessity, it allows me to make quick transactions with the customers.

However, where I work, we do not carry bottled sodas, we only carry fountain drinks. So here is the problem. I am currently taping up the lids of the sodas, putting them in two sandwich bags, and carry them on my handlebars. anything over two sodas is a nightmare. I probably have 2 sodas leak through the sandwich bags a month, and plop on the ground. As you could imagine, bagging up/taping/carrying these sodas is extremely time consuming. which is not very good for me

Somebody please give me some input. thanks!

Front basket? I`ve just seen a small rectangular folding front mounted basket. Styrdy plus easyer to clean than a bag or pannier. That or a more stylish porteur rack of course.

Sorry, I suppose I should mention that I don't really like the front basket thing. I've tried it and I hate the idea of anything hampering movement of my hands on my handlebars. For whatever reason, I use just about every spot on my handlebars when I'm riding. I was thinking something more along the lines of using an old milk crate on a rear rack? or some other home remedy along those lines...

I'd pour the drinks into empty Gatorade bottles, cap tightly, then pour back into the styrofoam cups when I got to the drop.

my standard answer, since you don't like front basket..... wald folding baskets on the rear. you could get a small cooler to put them in (keeps them cold and clean impresses the people you deliver to.......better tips) and juse empty cups to keep the fit so that filled cups don't fall over. advantage over milk crate is lower center of gravity...disadvantage up front cost. but as you can fold them out of the way I am guess that would appeal to you

Bikes: looks like a specialized crux now

rear bag on a rack, and get the star bucks drink carriers when you can put the drinks in that, if you ruin one, recycle it. get another

i was just looking at these last night

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Plastic-Bicy...item53e66cda64

it's not a fully formed idea since i'm just reading the question and like i said just saw these.

maybe find a couple of mountain bike bar ends and mount them as close to the stem as possible, so you'd only give up a few inches of hand space on each side. mount them sticking out forward and there'd be room for one of these on each one. if you have some bar ends around already, a couple bucks for these is a cheap test. if it works, you could extend the bar ends somehow (weld/clamp on some straight sections of handlebar or similar dia tubing), then you could add as many to each as you feel comfortable with carrying.

^^^THIS

You can just fill it with empties, and plop the sodas to be delivered into the empties. It's like a pre-formed tray

^ I like this idea. You're going to have to add a basket of some sort to the bike.

Take your common cup size to the hardware store and find the best fitting diameter of PVC or ABS pipe, and cap. With a few holes drilled they can be mounted anywhere with cable straps or zip ties. They work well, my first set lasted over a year.
