I can't blame him, but my curiosity would have led me to check it out at the $25 price, not $175. It may well be worth it, dunno, but I am not that interested in a racy bike.
I love what somebody here said about those "LBS Quotes"...ask them to pay you what they think it is worth...on the spot, right there...that OFTEN changes that evaluation!

What's wrong with this bike?

The seller has been posting the same ad for at least two years now. For a name brand with Dura Ace, I don't understand why it doesn't sell.

I've considered buying it myself and actually spoke with the seller some time ago, but aluminum frames are just not that desirable to me.

Is that the reason it isn't selling?

Can't say as I agree with that (if I am understanding it correctly).
There are bikes I could put an FMV price on after following CL and buying a handful+ in the last couple years.
It would not mean I would want to buy the bike at any price, if it did not suit my particular needs/wants.

I think the bike in question will sell for a lot more than the original $25 asking price. Will it sell for $175? Maybe not, but it is not a bad place to start in order for the seller to get to the real here-and-now value.

Wow. I didn't even notice it was listed under "musical instruments". I was doing a Searchtempest nationwide search for "Guerciotti".

Tiny Miyata Touring (?) Bike for $65 - lots of crap parts added, but underneath this might be worth it. Maybe it's a mountain bike...not sure.

That looks like a Miyata Quickcross from around 90/91, with some handlebar setup slapped on from another bike.

It's close to market value and is in purgatory. Bikes like that aren't modern enough for a certain crowd and they're not old enough for a certain crowd. And the presentation sucks.

I guess I dwell in that purgatory. I like the look and feel of older bikes, but I really dislike downtube shifters. That limits what I like to the bikes from the 90's. I don't know if you can call those bikes classic and vintage, though.

no reason to stick in the 90s. DT shifters can be easily replaced with barcons..... or the drivetrain can always be updated with brifter compatible parts.

That is one of the greatest periods that bikes have had - innovative steel tubing, less crit focus than the 80s, good aesthetics, great functional parts that still looked good. Is there a better combo of aesthetics and function than campy 9sp silver record? All at often very favorable pricing compared to other periods.

There are definitely some very classic bikes from this period - merckx MXL, de rosa Primato, Merlins if you like ti. Bridgestone hit its peak.

When these bikes originally appeared in '86, they had C-record. But La Vie Claire switched to Dura Ace in the '87 season, by which point the team had mostly switched over to the TVT-made carbon Looks. It's certainly possible this was a carry over into the '87 season with the switch to DA. Note also the number hanger and seller's location. This could quite likely be a team bike. The Looks available to the public came with one set of water bottle bosses, no-chrome on the chain stay, and, again, no number hanger.

The LOOK logo on the down tube is odd though. Typically the logo is not positioned so close to the top of the down tube and the word "LOOK" is not aligned on the left and right side like on the listed bike. Also, my Look and others I've seen had a plastic BB cable guide, not the brazed-on guides.

Note also the lack of orig paint on the fork. Replacement?

NOT vintage, but possibly classic?

This has been posted repeatedly for a while in Boston. I notice it because it would be a perfect fit for my wife...

These are very nice bikes that were marketed towards our crowd. I'd replace the post and stem with silver (Nitto or Ritchey Classic) and have a real looker....
Too bad she loves her RB-1...

The first one is a bike boom euro bike. It's probably worth the price.
The second one is a low-end Univega. These were made by Miyata, and it's certainly worth the price.
Neither has flipper potential, so if you're looking for something to fix up and ride, choose one. Either could work as a grocery-getter or commuter.

They are very different sizes, so if you're new to this, look up an online frame size calculator to see which one would suit you best.

You don't see either of these every day:

(calling @Chombi ?)
Bicycles: Road Bikes Classifieds for Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming | ksl.com
Vitus O.C.T.
French built carbon fiber frame -- OCT = Ovoid Carbon Tubing -- Size = 55cm from center of top tube to center of bottom bracket -- Group is Dura Ace 7700 series. ---------
See pics for details.
Normal wear seen in pics is cosmetic.
Bike has never been involved in a crash or even fallen over while parked.
This particular frame had a limited production run and is very difficult to find outside Europe.
The downtube shifters are a personal preference.
Can be easily set up with conventional brake-shifter type levers [Shimano STI]. Notice the shifter bosses on the headtube
Asking $550
