Magnesium may not seem the obvious material for bicycle manufacture, although engineers in the car and aircraft industries often use it for strong, flexible metal components.

Almost a decade ago Frank Kirk, an aeronautical engineer, had the bright idea that a magnesium bicycle frame could be made lighter and stronger than conventional aluminium or steel tube frames.
He found he could make a magnesium frame only two-thirds the weight of an aluminium frame and one-fifth that of a frame made of steel.

The key difference between his frames and any other is that they are cast as a single component - from molten magnesium. This avoids the need for jointed tubes, which have to be welded for strength.

Each frame is made from the magnesium extracted from one and a half cubic metres of sea water - just under 2.5kg (5.5lbs) of metal. This may seem hard to believe, but magnesium is one of nature's
most abundant metals - a cubic metre of seawater contains 1.3kg (2.8lb) of magnesium. This magnesium is mixed with a little aluminium to give the frame a 'softer' feel and a tiny amount of zinc to help
the metal flow more easily in the mould.

A Dutch team used prototype Kirk racing frames in its bikes for the 1990 Tour de France and one of Japan's leading cycling magazines voted the mountain bike its 1991 off-road bike of the year.

Colnago 60 cm road bike - $500

Not sure of year, 1987-1991 Colnago criterium bike with chrome forks and Campi equipment. Has been a great bike, but don't ride it anymore and could utilize the space. Two sets of wheels come with it. I can send pictures to serious buyers.

All the parts are here and the frame is in Excellent condition --- has been garaged well (dry) and ridden very little. Bike is likely from the late 80s. 27" wheels, rubber is usable but getting dry -- no cracks yet, but soon. 12 speed. The standover height is like 34.5 inches, so you gotta have some legs, man. 25 inch frame size is from center of BB shell to top of seat tube. I removed BB & it needs to be cleaned and new grease, bearings might be ok. Chain is good. Crank and pedals fine. Sun tour AR derailleurs. Color is light brownish, grayish.... Of course, it's all steel. Typical drop bars, with shifters on (Nitto)stem, and dried out foam on bars. Sorry no pics. Sweet bike. I can help reassemble it, but will have to charge a fee. Needs cables and housing as they are dried out/corroded. Fuji decal on seat tube is perfect, with multi-colored stripes above and below still completely intact and vivid. Saddle looks to be original (though it does not say FUJI on back), kinda ugly but useable. Call Bill at 914 xxx xxxx

C.H. notes: probably an '83

OK Here is a nice but maybe pricey Raleigh, $335, there are some more great pics on the ad. https://harrisburg.craigslist.org/bik/2867084040.html

• Excellent Condition!
• Raleigh Grand Prix
• 58 cm (23") frame; sized for persons 5'8" to 6'1"
• Shimano 105 components throughout with index shifting - quality Japanese anodized aluminum (NOT gunmetal)
• Reynolds 531 frame - British steel!
• Very low mileage - probably less than 200 miles
• Original owner - will show receipt - includes owner's manual
• Stored in house entire life -- zero rust/corrosion
• The bike is ready to ride, and all components are perfectly tuned

I tried to convince my dad (whom it would fit) to consider this bike while he was in the area recently. He wasn't biting. Maybe a bit pricey, but that is a fine frame, and looks to have been built up in style.

Vancouver Island, Canada (Parksville is about 2hrs ferry/drive from Vancouver).

Bill Davidson Road bike - $650 (Parksville)

Rare Bill Davidson "Stilleto," late 1980s criterium bike, built with Tange Prestige variable sized oversize steel tubing, 28.6 top tube, 30.0 mm downtube, flared and ovalized seat tube at the bottom bracket, hidden in top tube rear brake cable. 53cm. c-c seat tube, 55cm. top tube. Repainted and rebuilt.

Shimano dropouts, 130 mm rear end spacing. ( O.K. for STI/Ergo 8-10 speed)

*New black/gold/red decals
*Rebuilt wheels; Sun Mistral rims with dt swiss spokes on Dura Ace 32 hole hubs, regreased new bearings.
* Shimano 600 indexed 7 speed groupo with new cassette & chain, easily changed to STI with 7 or 8 speed brake/shifters.
* New inner and outer cables
* Campagnolo 172.5 veloce chainset with a Campagnolo 42 newer record inner ring, new Campagnolo 52 track outer ring.
* Campagnolo Centaur botttom bracket.
* Cinelli 65 - 40 Criterium bars, Cinelli 1A 10 cm stem, black bar tape, or a 3ttt 40 cm. traditional drop bar with a 9 cm. stem.
*FSA roller bearing headset.
*Michelin Lithion tires.
* First generation Sellia Italia turbo super saddle. ( not a reproduction)
* New black double water bottle cages. ( not shown in pics)
*SPD pedals.

This is a handbuilt frame by one of the premier U.S. framebuilders. It's a tight stiff race bike, that will fit a 5"8" - 5' 11' rider.

https://www.davidsonbicycles.com/

Can also do a fitting if required.

No trades, offshore, paypal etc. Cash and very serious enquiries only.

Thanks for looking.

Van Hauwaert was pretty fast in a non-typo'd world, where he did in fact win Stage 1 of the TdF in 1909. 1953 would be 70th anniv. of his birth.

That said, I don't really see referring to one's potential customers as "ritzy well-greased collector[s]" in an advertisement, or doing that kind of business on CL. But craigslist isn't always a forum for tact. And it would be the best place to net obsessives. Who knows?

1981 Trek 710. Reynolds 531 double butted Frame/Fork.
Seat tube: 52cm c-c
Top tube: 54cm c-c

Paint is in great shape and really shines. Has only a couple scrapes in the paint and has a small ding / dent in the middle of the top tube. Purely cosmetic, no structural damage - shown in picture. Very little rust.
Has fender and rack brazeons and room for fat tires, would make a sweet commuter or light touring bike.
Horizontal dropouts so you could convert to a single speed or fixed gear.

Frame/Fork/Headset ONLY: $225

Complete bike (NOTE: lights, fender, saddle and pedals NOT included. A basic saddle and fairly new toe clip pedals are included): $450
9s Shimano build:
Shimano 105 (with Ultegra name plate) rear STI shifter, bar end shifter for front.
Front brake lever is Shimano 600/Ultegra
Rear derailleur is Ultegra 6600. Front derailleur is 600/Ultegra.
Crankset is 600/Ultegra.
Brake calipers are brand new Tektro R539 (just paid $50 for these)
Cinelli Handlebars
Cannondale carbon wrapped seatpost
Mavic Aksium wheelset with low miles
Tange Levin headset
Schwalbe tires and handlebar tape are both near new

Please include a phone number or at least try to sound human in your response. Cash (or paypal) only, first come, first serve.
